Boston's Katrina Coverage Compared to Providence's

Both Boston and Providence stations are locally offering equally good coverage of Katrina. I commend those in Providence that are doing what they can, but, once again, Boston tops.

WBZ has the best coverage out of all stations. They are wall-to-wall, offering local updates, and devoting whole newscasts to Katrina. They're going straight to 6:30. It has Ed Murrow Award written all over it.

You can't shut out WCVB and WHDH either. WCVB is committed, and being Hearst-Argyle owned, they got their relief effort going, and WHDH had Phil Lipoff going down South, and they do everything right.

Providence? Ahh, I don't know. I mean, they do good coverage on the siutation, focusing on local relief efforts besides broadcasting a network package. But they're not staying on the coverage as long as the Boston stations. I commend WPRI for sending Jarrod Holbrook with the RI National Guard to the disaster area.

But you all know my deep, strong hopes of WLNE gaining champion status. They're doing all right, but again, not as extensive as the rest. They just focus on the economic aspect, not on those that are struggling to stay alive, or the national help that's being sent down, and they certainly are not sending a reporter down. I know they don't have any money, but aren't they trying to build a stronger news image? Make your coverage more compelling

I forgot WJAR. They have it straight. Only a little bit of improvement needed.
