OK, someone's gotta post this on the Air America - WKOX/WXKS board -
I think Clear Channel is trying to PUSH listeners away with those
AWFUL AWFUL P.S.A.s - horrifying PSAs which make John Depetro almost listenable on the competition.

Really - and the commercials are just bad. Do they have NO SENSE of GOOD RADIO.
Commercials are a fact of life with COMMERCIAL radio, but the station DOES have the right to insist on DECENT SOUNDING commercials.

If the signal doesn't get you these PSAs will - if you haven't listened, tune in to hear how bad it is.

I feel badly for Ed Schultz, Randi, Franken and Stephanie, and find myself tuning in on the web.

What is going on? Does Clear Channel want to have the APPEARANCE of being
"fair and balanced" ?

And you think AA's content constitutes good radio? The half-dozen or so times I've tuned in, I don't recall hearing ANY local commercials. Yeah, they could use some more PSAs, but have you ever worked in a station and listened to any of the pre-produced PSAs that come in? They ALL suck. Obviously, they're not having much luck selling these stations. Like with most "pot up the bird & walk away" talk AM stations (regardless if ideology) there aren't many listeners, which equates to advertisers staying away in droves.

You can come out of your bunker, there's no more conspiracy here than there is with the black helicopter crowd in Montana. CC is in business to make money. Period. They're not going to intentionally cripple one of their stations.

I'd be less inclined to believe in a conspiracy if they didn't insist on Springer being there. Why, why, why, why, why is he there? His very name drags down the credibility of the station and the content and he's not even very good.

ClearChannel might decide that it's worth the investment in order to derail progressive talk forever. They understand the way the industry works (being, you know, most of the industry themselves) and if something fails spectacularly in radio, it probably will never be repeated, regardless of the REASONS it failed. So, AAR fails in a year or two because of Jer-ry and the crappy production. That means that the hyper-capitalist conservatives who run Clear Channel have pretty much put the kibbosh on anyone doing liberal talk again.

I don't know about a conspiracy but every time that PSA comes on, I reach for the radio/changer... it's an endless loop of that one, Mrs. Rich, Mr. Bonner, it takes a man to be a dad, etc etc...

I actually get my Air America fix mainly from Air America Place, where I can download the shows onto my computer or iRiver withhout commercials...

OT: Perhaps they cant sell the product. What else should they be playing?
