Both 1410 and 1460 in Brockton are currently off.

It looks like, in addition to WXBR/1460 being down for ownership and transmitter changes, 1410/WMSX seems to also be down (as of last check @ 12:00 noon). I guess Mr. Langer has taken possession of the station and took it down. It will be interesting to see what happens there. This is a station that is in need of some major TLC. It used to be quite the showpiece of AM stations as far back as the 70's. It used to have a fine trimmed lawn between the towers and you could see them clear as day in the house back when I visited WOKW back in '73. Today, the towers are quite hidden underneath a forest of brush and trees. I wish who ever runs it, good luck. It really needs it. I'm sure the ground system is also hurting, what's left of it.

Maybe Alex Langer will make 1410 (whatever it's call letters are now) something at least partly local for Brockton and the south-central suburbs of Boston, since all signs point towards WXBR-1460 going 24/7 Haitian.

WOKW was the launching pad of someone who would become a major player in FM rock in Boston and later LA.

The old WBET was what local radio was all about 50 years ago. I remember them doing a high school baskeball game on a Friday afternoon from Cambridge back to Brockton.

WOKW/1410 was a great sounding local station back in the 60's and 70's. Originally it was a Top 40 station when it signed on back in the early 60's. Eventually it mellowed to a full-service MOR station. It had a lot of schoolboy sports on Saturdays including Randolph High School football.

WBET AM and FM was the station of the Brockton Enterprise and Times. It was the station of record for the longest time, in Brockton. Like WOKW, they also carried a lot of sports. So much in fact that they had to separate the AM and FM stations at times to carry two different games. Eventually, the FM (97.7) did separate completely on 11/1/76 to go Stereo and bring Top 40/oldies to the South Shore as WCAV.

It's a shame to see both of the Brockton stations wind up like this.

Bigger shame is what happened to Brockton. The towns around Brockton with money want nothing to do with the city - (Avon, Stoughton, Whitman, Bridgewater and Abington). Brockton itself is close to Lawrence as being a lost city.
