Both KXTE and KVGS STINK in the ratings!

KVGS is doing better in PPM than the diary where they barely showed up at all. Plus they cut the gap between the two stations. KXTE might be disappointed because they didn't get the PPM boost some alt stations got in markets such as Houston and Philly.

KTBZ didn't get a boost from PPM. There are only 2 rock stations in Houston. If there were five, like there are in Vegas, they wouldn't have the numbers they have.

Philly is also over 75% non-ethnic, where Vegas is not. Don't compare apples to oranges.

Do you still have Houston numbers going back to the diary? I seem to recall KTBZ had a large jump diary to PPM, I remember others commenting on this at the time.

For Philly there are other things going on besides ethnic composition. KXTE is a LOT harder than WRFF. Plus Philly doesn't have a big Hot AC like KMXB. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the WRFF audience uses the station as a default modern AC. I would guess that WRFF has a higher composition of women listeners than KXTE does, you would probably know.

Is it just me, or is KXTE sounding less "hard rock" and more like a vanilla alternative everyday? The playlist sounds more like KVGS than ever before. On their website, they even have a "Boss" campaign, just like KVGS. What's the deal? I realize KXTE's numbers aren't great, but aren't they risking what they "have" to be something...dare I say...worse?

Has KXTE stopped calling itself "Extreme Radio", too?

Jay - remember that KLOL used to be between Arrow and KTBZ.

Think about this - Houston has two Rock stations and Las Vegas has five: Point, KOMP, KXTE, KVGS, and JACK (they are rock, less put it where it's at).

You are 100% correct about WRFF... big rock market and no Hot AC. They have strong female numbers.

This makes me sad. I grew up listening to X-treme Radio. I even tried to become an X-treme DJ once. I never thought of it in terms of ratings, I just remember it being the coolest station EVER... Now it pains me to think they might flip formats because the numbers are low. I sincerely hope they do a massive personnel change before they consider flipping formats. Get some new folks in charge who are really passionate about the music, they could bring it back from the dead.

Every format needs a front-runner to dig up the new music and set the pace for the industry.

Come on X-treme! Fix it, Don't switch it.

hmmm XTE sounds like KVGS but with a 1000 times better signal and processing. No wonder who will win there. Hats off to KOMP for wiseley stepping in to fill the ear-bleeding needs of the former Xtreme crowd. Even Komp's morning show moved in and eclipsed that which XTE had and gave up.

poor KVGS doesn't have a chance against the mighty CBS machine.

I didn't know you were an engineer.

KXTE started making these changes several months ago if you actually took the time to look at the music logs - and they've been "X" for quite a while.

And, the likely reason they reacted - they are neck and neck since KVGS got their upgrade. In November, they were virtually tied 18-34 and 18-49 in rating point.

X1075 always seemed to be on the 2's... no surprise about KXTE, but KVGS is sorta understandable due to static and sounds bad IMO.

Actually I had not bothered; I wrote that station off my listening list after Carolla left. The simple fact that KVGS's pea-shooter could tie them shows how strong the "xtreme" brand was at driving off listeners in my opinion. With this music format and some marketing and time to soak in, KVGS is in trouble; their music selection is as weak as their on-air talent. They seem to promote well however; those people should be working for CBS since they have the superior signal and will win just for that fact alone. BTW the music section on KXTE's web site is excellent

KVGS put up a new FM Booster on the Stratosphere 2 or 3 months ago.....I haven't heard it myself but in theory this should be a very good site and their signal should be greatly improved. Within 10 miles of the Stratosphere they should be very good....isn't this more than 90% of the population of the Vegas metro?

Kevin - they sure did and the cume saw a huge jump. Inside the metro, they have a serviceable signal and actually had stronger cume than KXTE in some cells.
