I made my first post late last night, and had it in my mind that this thread was in the Memphis forum, which is why I was kind of vague when I was referring to Christian radio in the Memphis area. All the stations I mentioned were in Memphis.
TJ,
When WMSO was sold to the Botts a lot of listeners (including me) had the impression that they were biased against CCM and that they had no regard for the CCM audience that was abandoned. Over time I realized that the format would have been the same no matter what station they had bought, and that it wasn't an intentional action to try to get rid of CCM radio in the area, although it had that effect. I realize now that the previous owners of WMSO deserve more blame than Bott in the sale of the station to someone who had no intention of keeping the CCM format, but they actually made up for it later when they started WYLT in Memphis, which eventually became one of the K-LOVE stations.
Usually when Mr. Bott or his sons took calls over the air and someone would ask about bringing back CCM, they would usually answer with something like "That's not what God has called us to do.", and I realize now that at least in their eyes that was probably true. I know they also bought a CCM station in Kirksville, MO and changed it to their format. I know that it probably wasn't intended to destroy a CCM station in either case, but it leaves a lot of people with the impression that is what happened. Do you know what their real attitude toward CCM was? Thanks!
