Bought The Cheapie Duel HD/CD car radio this weekend...

Picked it up for the heck of it as Wife needed new radio to replace dead one that was later stolen. (Yep Idiot thief stole dead radio - Priceless)

It works pretty well. "OK" sound, locks onto HD and holds it around town. AM-FM-HD-CD-Aux in Jack for $119.95 at Best Buy.

I didn't go specifically for the HD, but for the price it was almost a freebie. I notice the rebates are gone. :)

Actually it was there on the shelf alongside the other car stuff.

Almost like the HD is becoming "just another feature".

Nothing wrong with that..

So - what is the reception report? Sound quality? Drop outs / drop ins?

I asked Santa Claus for a Sangean HDT-1X. SHE is out shopping for me and our kid right now, so I'll let everybody know how this system works for a suburban listener after Chrsitmas. DX fodder, or viable for normal consumer morons? At tens of miles out from Dallas stations, but still in the heavily populated suburbs, my experience should be fairly typical. And - I may be able to pack it up and take it to Houston. Try the Misouri City tower signals from Cypress - and since my sister in law is unlikely to let me put up an antenna, this will be a really good dipole only test. First floor, second floor, crumpled on floor vs. used properly, etc. I am mildly curious about HD, but chose the brand because it is a highly rated DX tuner. For analog, which will be its main use.

I still haven't pulled my Pioneer back out to activate the HD functions in the chipset - but I think it will be fairly simple to do so. That will give me a good mobile platform.
