BOUNCE TV NETWORK TO AIR ON RAYCOM'S 26 STATIONS

The new to be launched this fall, mostly movies, Bounce TV (aimed at African Americans) has gained 26 sub-affiliates from Raycom. Didn't Raycom just sign with Me-TV also? I guess they will have at least a couple of subs on their stations. Bounce will now cover 10% of the US audience and 19% of the African American audience. Atlanta is home of Bounce TV (I bet they find an affiliate here also) and Raycom stations are mostly in the Southeast.

Cleveland/Akron, OH (WOIO/WUAB), Charlotte, NC (WBTV), Cincinnati, OH (WXIX), West Palm Beach, FL (WFLX), Birmingham, AL (WBRC), Memphis (WMC), Louisville, KY (WAVE), Richmond, VA (WUPV), Columbia, SC (WIS), Huntsville, AL (WAFF), Shreveport, LA (KSLA), Jackson, MS (WLBT), Baton Rouge, LA (WAFB), Savannah, GA (WTOC), Charleston, SC (WCSC), Myrtle Beach/Florence, SC (WMBF), Tyler/Lufkin, TX (KLTV), Augusta GA (WFXG), Montgomery, AL (WSFA), Columbus, GA (WTVM), Wilmington, NC (WECT), Albany, GA (WALB), Biloxi, MS (WLOX), Hattiesburg, MS (WDAM), Dothan, AL (WDFX) and Lake Charles, LA (KPLC).

Considering Census 2010 figures that showed continued Black migration to back to the Southeast, Bounce is making a pretty good start here. Still, there's plenty of work to do beside getting Atlanta: Memphis and New Orleans in the south, Chicago, Detroit, and St. Louis in the midwest, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. in the North/East Coast, Los Angeles and Oakland on the West Coast, and they've gotta get Dallas and Houston in Texas.

Will this mean a DT-4 on most Raycom stations? As DT-2 is local weather, and DT-3 is This TV.

I don't know how reliable that is. I know Montgomery, AL (where Raycom is based) has This TV carried by Fox affiliate WCOV, and not Raycom-owned WSFA, where its DT-2 is RTV.

Then, finally, WFLX 29 will make use of their .2.....took long enough.

Raycom's Myrtle Beach NBC affilate which is WMBF has (NBC) on DT-1, Local Weather on DT-2, This TV on DT-3. Wonder if they might take away This TV or Local Weather or just add a D-4

I wonder what this does with Raycom's deal with ME-TV. Could either Bounce or ME-TV take the place of the local weather channel on .2 and the other on .4? Or could only one or the other show up on Raycom stations but not both? I can't see them carrying all three networks and the weather channel as well.

I definitely suspect the weather subs to be going away. In fact, in no case except KLTV could I find a situation where a Raycom station would have to have more than 1 HD + 2 SD if Bounce replaced the local weather subchannel.

http://www.rabbitears.info/search.php?request=network_search&network=Bounce+TV

I made a number of educated guesses there. I suspect WSFA will drop RTV once and for all in favor of Bounce on 12-2, but without knowing that, I just went ahead and called it 12-3.

Furthermore, WALB introduced ABC service on 10.2, displacing This TV. They could have added a third subchannel, but they opted to replace instead.

By the looks of things, not all Raycom stations will be able to accommodate Bounce TV, due to prior commitments with other subchannels. And in the case where Raycom owns two or more stations (such as WOIO and WUAB in Cleveland), they will have to choose one or the other to affiliate with.

I see this as an all out sub grab. I think most of the Raycom stations will have 2 or 3 subs,
that's how I'm reading this.

The exact MeTV and Bounce TV affiliates have been announced already. There's no mystery other than whether WOIO or WUAB will have Bounce in Cleveland and which exact subchannel each network will be on.

For example, WALB dropped This, but it is an announced affiliate of Bounce, which I suspect will appear on 10-3.

They should put Bounce on WOIO, since I don't get it. :D And Me-TV on WUAB - I still wonder if the "WOIO" return on the Me-TV site is just a placeholder for the two stations.

SOMEONE told me - I'll have to go find the E-mail - that Me-TV will go on 19.2 and Bounce on 19.3. Doesn't make a lot of sense, though, since 43 only has one sub (43.2 - This TV) and 720p MyNetwork TV. You'd think they could put one of those subs on WUAB.

Trip,
Does this mean that there won't be other Raycom stations getting ME-TV in the future that don't have it already? I'm really not surprised that WMC in Memphis would pick Bounce over ME-TV if it comes down to one or the other, but it appears like ME-TV is doing a gradual phase-in of stations rather than a major start at one time like Bounce is doing. I always figured that WMC was the best chance of getting ME-TV in my area until the Bounce announcement.

Trip,

My E-mail about Bounce being on WOIO (Me-TV on 19.2, Bounce on 19.3) says it's your website listing that. Do you know anything? :)

Nope. Blind guess.

I figured it would make more sense for Raycom to put any Mobile DTV they want to do on WUAB rather than on WOIO. That's my logic.

I'm sure they could sign more in the future, but the affiliates that will be joining up at launch as of right now are what's on the list.

And that certainly makes sense given that WUAB is UHF.

But can they fit a .3 and Mobile DTV on WUAB? I don't know the bandwidth issues, but I gotta think .1 being 720p helps.

Not if they're planning multiple MH streams, like feeding both WOIO and WUAB in MH.
