Boy I love the pleasantness on here

Lets go over what we have learned.

Someone is slamming consultants.. which he or she is slamming Hilton.

Dave is great at recommending toilet paper. I have to give Dave props, I have used toilet paper at his house and it was soft and plentiful. If someone wants to be successful with a CHR, Dave is someone I would listen to. He never had a book as a PD in Altoona when his station was under a 10 share. That was going head to head with the Frog.

Let's be realistic about the situation. The guys are doing the best they can with a family owned station. No big bucks to buy an audience with promotions.

Remember when the Frog came on, they gave away thousands and thousands of daughters. They used that technique to attack the long time country station that used a truck load of groceries as the ratings grand prize.

I would bet 50 cents that if someone went Country in Altoona or State College, had the promotion budget to get people interested in sampling the product, the Frog would go down.

Even if you take 5 points away, The Frog isn't #1, and the 5 points puts you in the top 5-6.

Think about it. The plan might have legs.

Does that make me a consultant too?

Wait, if I become a consultant, that means people will rip on me for being a has been or a wash out.

I would rather be doing part-time in Milwaukee or Virginia Beach, my last and current part-time job, than dealing with the crap here.

Who other than Glen Turner, Dave Shannon, Kevin Nelson and Steve Jones could actually work somewhere bigger than State College.

Most of the people on the air now weren't born when I did my first show 25 years ago.

Look at who you are, where you want to be and be realistic.

As Judge Smails said in Caddyshack, the world needs ditch diggers too. More than half of you should be digging ditches and making some decent money, than slamming each other on here.

I will admit I was a firey competitor. When I worked at WPRR, I wanted to beat the Frog. When I was at Mix, I wanted to beat WPRR. When I was at WTRN, I wanted to beat Sean McKay. If you don't want to win, ditch digging is where you need to be.

For now, radio is fun for me. It is something I enjoy and I am very happy not to worry about if I will get fired or if someone gets a bug up their butt and change everything you built because they thought Dick Dennis would bring more audience to a station. Seems to me the slide started there.

Hope everyone enjoyed my ranting and raving, but please get your heads out of your butts. It is radio. The music matters. Bribing listeners matters. What you say between songs can matter, but most of the time doesn't.

Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow.

How did I miss that? When Froggy signed-on, I listened on the radio in the WVAM/WPRR transmitter room. I didn't hear the big daughter giveaway.

A great promotion for a rocker, eh? Hop on The Bus... and hop on a daughter!

That is so true, the rest of us can only dream of one day working in Walla Walla, Washington

ANYONE can. There are a lot of good broadcasters in this market, working for every company. Listen objectively sometime.

Even with my obvious sarcastic jabs at hitman, I can say he does sound good on the air. Listen to the guys on QWK or the Bus or 3WZ or Hot or WOWY...ANYONE...most of the full timers are good here.

Mr. H-wood.
I am a fiery competitor. I am a RAGING competitor.
I love to win. Win! Win! Win!
I drink Propel fitness water.
I find that mixing Propel Fitness water with multiple shots of a cheap branded whiskey before my shift gives me a competitive edge.
You know, I often shout into the mike, "FROG!!! Who are you? You don't even know my name! Beware the Federal Reserve Board!"
I am no longer working.
How do I become a consultant? Would I need to wear ties? I hate ties. They are the yoke of the white man's oppression. Do you hate the man, as well?
What is a good toilet paper?
So much to learn from my friends. So very much!

Charley HooHoo

Thank you for the kind words regarding my on-air perfornmance. I would wholeheartedly agree with you...this market is brewing with talent (although in some cases, an owner or PD may stifle it a little...It still peeks through). Some display very raw talent and some sound very developed and I am sure many people could make the jump to larger markets quite easily. Some of us have even had the chance to do that and opted to stay here in Happy Valley for our own personal reasons (you all know who you are...no pointing fingers or naming names please. These people all had their own reasons for choosing to stay)

Always makes me smile with someone I know or have worked with makes the jump somewhere bigger and better and I have known quite a few who have done just that. State College and Altoona have always been in the 200's as far as markets go...Always will be. For some, its a launching pad, for some its home and for some its a place to decide that they will never want to do this again. Thats what its all about

Steve

Glen Turner, Dave Shannon and Kevin Nelson have ALL worked in markets larger than State College.

So have Nick Bazoo, Ken Prell and Jeff Brown...and I am sure others too.

I once worked at a station in Paducah, Kentucky, it was really nice! Exxon was the best company I ever worked for...full-service and we checked under the hood for free.
