Boycott KHMX

To all who have heard Ryan Chase's audio and the way Clear Channel has handled their situation I am calling for an official boycott of KHMX or newly called KSAM. I hope to get more listeners that were Roula, Ryan & Eric fans to see the injustice I see to stand together and let Clear Channel, KHMX know that people shouldn't be lied to their faces and then back stabbed, if you feel the same way I do please add to the posts, I welcome other peoples opinions and comments. By the way if your not a Roula, Ryan & Eric fan don't bother to post we don't need to hear why you didn't like their show, positive only comments here to the injustice of their firings. Thank you.

I am with you there, I mostly listen to cd's, I only listened to KHMX for Roula, Ryan & Eric, it sure wasn't the same tired ole mix day after day they play, I mean talk about wearing a song out, listen to the MIX in the mornings and in about a week that favorite song you once liked will want to make you puke. If Sam Malone knew about this (for months) and according to the billboards I think he did, then he is no better than KHMX & Clear Channel, and he belongs there with that bunch.

Obviously you were not a fan of the old KLOL or this would not have come as such a shock to you. I too listen to CD's mostly, but since I grew up in Louisiana I was/am also a Walton and Johnson fan. CC did exactly what they wanted to do in both situations, which was to create hype about the change. As you did ask to keep things positive, I won't get into the discussion about whether or not I liked R&R and if what they did was the best business decision, but CC's approach is the same as it was with the KLOL fiasco: A rather discourteous bomb drop.

As far as Sam goes... I am sure Sam was/is doing what is best for Sam. I'll bet he knew KRBE was about to be sold and figured it was better to be safe than sorry and have a job no matter what happened. I can't really fault him too much there.

You know I used to like KLOL but there again, they had the same songs playing all the time, just like radio in general today does so I kind of lost interest there too. I listen to enough music to know there are alot better songs from certain artists than what makes it to radio. There can be alot better mix of music playing on the radio than what actually gets played, I just wish Houston had better music then I might listen or even care. On the Sam front, I have never went into a job knowing I was going to put someone out on their asses, maybe in radio that happens all the time, and you guys are prepared for it, but when someone sits down with me and tells me your job is secure and then lets me finish the job before saying your finished, that is just wrong and shouldn't be tolerated, I don't care if it has happened before, people should get a backbone and let these companies know that their not going to take it lightly. I have emailed Clear Channel, KHMX, I wish a news channel would pick up on this but they are probably owned by Clear Channel themselves. Its just frustrating going through it myself, that I know how they must feel. I know they will be back, but people shouldn't just sit back and take crap from these companies that do wrong.

This is the nature of the biz folks. Anybody who goes into a morning position in a major market knows this. You hope to last a year or two and get a good tape together. Then you move on to the next job and hope you last 3 or 4 years. R&R will be hired and fired again and so will Sam. It sucks and I do feel sympathy for R&R, but they will live to tell the tale. I am sure their bruised egos will be healed by the encouragement they must be hearing via e-mail and this board. Boycotting won't even hit the radar on CC. Any publicity is good publicity. They are probably hoping this will make the news for the free advertising.

In looking at the KHMX morning numbers it looks like the boycott started prior to their dismissal. Haaaa, sorry, I had to type that. Seriously though... it's the nature of the business. No matter what the market size. It's the same way in the car business as well as the oil business. It happens. In 6 months no one will care. you could always start a petition... then maybe you could get R&R back on, but on a station that is a lame attempt to recreate KHMX. Maybe call Cumulus... they may have a few new frequencies soon. Look for the all new KIMX, or KHOL.. or something equally as lame.

That's actually kind of funny.

Because you dance to disco but you still like rock.

I know I have heard "this is the nature of the beast" from too many other people, it still doesn't make what they did right, and if enough people hear how they went about it, then maybe it will affect them in some way hopefully negatively. People need to stand up for what they believe and call someone out when they do another wrong. I hope Roula, Ryan And Eric do see this board because it will send them some encouragement in this hard time they are going through. I know they will bounce back because they are great people, but being fired the way they were is horrible and I want people to see that.

Well as a fan I am looking not at the numbers but at them as people, do you like being lied too? I was in the same position nearly a year ago where I was working contract, working contract you always have to look ahead, and when you get told no you will be fine, we have work for you through the new year and then get released around Christmas with no backup plan because you were told there was work, it isn't fun. Now I know Roula And Ryan will bounce back fast and this will all be forgotten in six months, but had they been told up front what was going on then maybe they could have started making plans for the future. It isn't fun stressing over where am I going to work next, when your out of a job nor leaving the people you work with suddenly, thats not right and it shouldn't be tolerated by anyone that has a backbone in their body.

Yeah well that is usually what people with no backbone say

No backbone? Are you serious? Should we have a bake sale and raise money for them? Give it a rest. Should management at CC have sat them down and said "Look, you guys are good people, but you aren't pulling any numbers... we've decided to make a change. We're giving you a notice that in 2 weeks you are gone." What purpose would that serve? When someone quits a job they give 2 weeks notice. It doesn't have ANYTHING to do with backbone when it comes to firing people. The change was decided upon and executed. It's happened to everyone in the industry. I knew a guy once that found out he was getting fired and prerecorded his show. Filled it up with curse words and broke the format. He's still fired and the station got hit with a fine. I'm sure you could say "Well, at least the station had backbone.".... but they didn't have any brains.

If Ken Charles and Buddy Scott pulled R&R into the office in March and said, "you guys are awesome people but rating are horrible and we've made a deal with Sam Molone. BUT the good new is you guys get to work for us until his non compete clause is over! Isn't that cool? Now....go do a kick ass show!" Roula and Ryan would have gone on the air and destroyed the station and any proffesional credibility they had. No one would have hired them because they were a time bomb waiting to blow. I've heard time and time again that they were difficult to work with and complainers on a good day. Again I will say they had to have seen the writing on the wall. It's the business. If you can't handle it work at the mall selling cinnamon buns

As they say, there's two types of people in radio: those that have been fired and those that will be.
______________

First of all let me say that the begining of this thread made me laugh out loud. Nothing but complaints about FM radio and how you hate it yet you're sitting here reading and posting on an FM chat board. Get a life seriously. Second of all, I know Roula personally and have worked with her closely in the past. She is anything but difficult to work with. Truly one of the most genuine and nicest people I've ever worked with. You know nothing so stop pretending like you do.

I know her too. We have obviously had different experiences. You are entitled to your opinion, as I am mine. And I've never said I hate FM radio. I love this industry with all it's flaws. That's why I work in it.

Why don't you give us a clue what those "morning numbers" look like, then tell us how malone's going to make it better, Ken?

First off bobbieboy, you can't put actual rating numbers up here or they will delete them. Second, I am not Ken. Want the rankings? How will Sam Malone improve ratings? Seriously, you are asking that question? He's a well known name that soccer moms love. Had good numbers for many years. This concludes todays Radio 101 class.

Well some people like to know they are getting the truth when someone pulls you into a room and says your job isn't threatened, you can't honestly tell me it doesn't bother you to look for a new job, come on tell the truth, if it was you it would bother you. Not to say you haven't seen it before but it would bother you. Have some compassion for people and quit preaching this "it happens to everyone B.S.", I am sick and tired of people saying radio people should expect this, noone deserves to be lied too.

How about KHOE? Seems to fit.

Look for the all new KIMX, or KHOL.. or something equally as lame.
