BPL - problems?

Househunting and came across this regarding BPL in the proposed Copper Pointe at 3rd Ave/Fillmore downtown, just feet from the defunct tower on the Westward Ho. Can this be a good thing?

"One of the unique offerings is a new technology called BPL (Broadband over Power Line).

"We are thrilled to be integrating this amazing new technology (BPL) into our buildings, as well as having PLC Network Solutions as our ISP and VoIP provider," stated Cal DeSouza, Managing Partner of Copper Pointe Condominiums, The Residences at Copper Point and The Lofts at Copper Point. "Broadband access has become an essential service and having Broadband over Power Line technology in our buildings is an asset we will be able to use to attract and retain residents. We expect to save a huge amount of capital in cabling costs during construction. As well, PLC's plug-and-play technology is easy to administer and maintain, and even easier for tenants to use. The increased availability of bandwidth will enable our tenant's access to other services such as VoIP, video-on-demand and IPTV when they are required."

Don't plan to get involved in ham radio if you live there....

Seriously, promises from the manufacturers that BPL systems won't interfere with shortwave are proving false in most cases. A system in Virginia is facing a possible FCC shutdown order over interference problems.

I would be concerned that the BPL system in this development might suddenly disappear if there are interference problems. Possibly involving mobile stations on nearby roads, so even if the HOA vigilantly prevents any kind of shortwave operation on the premises, interference off-premises would be a problem.
