Actually they're all "Wannabes" so I doubt they'll ever get feedbacks.

Yes, Alan Freed even said they were trying something a little different this week and wanted to see how the audience responded.

I think "Pon De Replay" fits just fine on BPM, but the others are out of place.

But why????
To test the waters to see if they can mix hip hop with dance? XM already has this music well covered.

Its not real dance. It might fit better on The Beat since they play more crossovers than BPM which is trying to be more pure dance.

I dont see this working with B.P.M.s audience. It would work better on the more Mainstream leaning SIRIUS-THE BEAT. I wouldnt really mind that, especially if the Urban Rhythmic stations (HOT JAMZ) and (THE CITY) started testing some Dance.

I think the biggest part of the problem is that there seems to be a bit of a shortage of good new radio-friendly dance tracks to choose from right now. That's a bit unfortunate, being that mid-summer is closing in and anything that's going to be hot for the summer ought to be hitting the airwaves right now. I wish some stations would dig a little deeper and not be shy about trying out import tracks on the airwaves, especially some of the stuff that's big over in the UK right now. I'm thrilled to hear that Robbins has signed Black Rock's "Blue Water" song for domestic release, but there's still a lot of great product overseas that I think could do well with some exposure over here. DHT is picking up on mainstream now, and that's great for dance, but on dance radio the song has already come and gone. Murk's new song sounds good, as well as the new Leana song and I'm happy to see Rockell's new "L.O.V.E." getting airplay, even though last I heard it was still not signed by anyone yet. Other that that, it's still pop remixes and some of the stagnant leftovers from last winter & spring.

I don't think that is the case at all. On my mixshow, i only have room for a certain number of tracks-- I probably have 3 times that of eligible radio-friendly songs I am getting worked on. There is a LOT of good stuff right now.

Anyway, responding to a post further up, Alan goes way back in the dance scene, so I'm sure he would do nothing to try and hurt it.

There is a ton of good dance music out there. I wouldnt think that XM would have to be that radio friendly. Both Robbins and Ultra do an incredible job with trying to push radio friendly tracks. Not a smart move to mix dance with hip hop. Look what happened with WPYO. Didn't work.

Do something

No, not that piece of trash song from Britney.

Email or call them...posting on radio info isn't going to give them feedback.
______________

Let's hope that it's not a "last effort" to keep the dance channel on the service... I'm not sure how audience response is measured on those services.
______________

What they need is more jocks on BPM.

XM is so cheap compared to Sirius when it comes to staffing their dance channels. Cmon now. Only ONE DJ on a hit dance channel??

Hiring more jocks will inform them that we don't want hip hop on their station?

They have plenty. Jon Boesche, Smooth, Jamie J Sanchez.
______________

That ghetto hip hop krap has got to go! Thats why I pay for XM Service for BPM, so I can get away from the Radio.
I just emailed bpm at: [email protected] and told them my thoughts.

I would definitely have to agree with Richard. I have received A LOT of really good records in the past weeks. My favorite being Deep Dish's "Say Hello". I cannot get enough of this record.

Ok... so my hypothesis was incorrect then. Lots of great tracks out there, that's good news... do we have to limit them exclusively to mixshows? Being a former mixshow jock myself, I know what it means to be able to "break" and "test" new tracks for radio play, that's always awesome... but how long does a programmer have to make a song wait till it sees regular rotation? I'm just trying to understand why summer playlists aren't getting jumpstarted with a lot of hot new songs, yet at the same time we've got a major pure dance outlet flirting with hiphop tracks thrown into the mix. I realize these are two separate issues, yet they MIGHT not be as separate as they seem?

BPM's new tracks are updated pretty quick...the wannabes on 33.3334 are way ahead of a lot of mixshows.

There's at least 2 regular ones: Alan Freed and Mark Feather.

Right.

It's really interesting the way Freed framed it. He basically said "Someone suggested I put these on. They're good songs, but I don't know if they're BPM material."

They clearly WANT to spark some passionate feedback. If the tracks annoy people, they'll be gone.

Feather left in April.

I heard the show, too. Alan never said the songs were good. In fact, all of the set ups and his inflections made it clear to me he didn't think the tracks had any validity at all!
