Brad Barton and Mark Watkins out at KRLD?

You are crazy. KRLD layoff Brad Barton!!! Brad is the only weatherman on DFW radio at the station in severe weather events. Brad pulls up KRLD number up high in North Texas storm season. I stop listening to KRLD if they layoff Brad Barton. They stop having true weather on the radio...they should go to a Spanish station if Brad Barton is gone. No more KRLD NEWSRADIO 1080AM

Dan-the-MAN!!
The North Texas Radio MAN!

P.S. I bet Brad and Mark are on vacation.

John is delegated to weekends. PD Peter Z takes over afternoon drive.Dan is right without Brad, DFW truly does not have a station that one can depend on for breaking weather situations. WBAP hasn't had it since its contract with KXAS died, and they were very late when severe storms came through a year ago and the year before that.Brad however was on top of the situation. Today's news is solid proof radio is indeed a sinking Titanic, and it has given the average listener an even stronger reason not to even bother clicking on the radio, unless you like to hear the gaffs, the buffoonery, and the stumbling pronounciations. CBS just raised a large white flag and it can be seen for many many miles.

I wonder if Brad will change his vanity ham radio call sign? ( K5RLD )

Brad Barton is out at KRLD 1080AM. KRLD f__________ed up on this layoff. I read in the Dallas Morning. They layed off Brad off after 10AM Thursday. I guess Gavin is a GHOST in all the stations he works at. People need to BOYCOTT KRLD 1080!!! I bet there rating will go to 0.0's now!!! I see Mexican Music on 1080AM by Christmas. I hope they gave Brad a good layoff package.

Well, considering Gavin is now at sportsradio 610 kilt in Houston, I'm not sure how much he had to do with Brad and Mark exiting KRLD. As Scrtr pointed out, im not 100 % convinced it was all CBS Dallas' doing in this case.

Brad Barton was the only reason I would tune in KRLD 1080. Hope to find out what station he is going to before tornado season.

That is, if they can interrupt sports, Rush, etc.

If Steve's column about Brad doesn't speak volumes about the man, then I don't know what does. Hang in there Brad, I am confident you will be on the air to help all of us get through the upcoming stormy seasons.

I've been holding back, because it's in bad form to kick a man when he's down, but...
I can name more than half a dozen former KRLD employees who believe they were let go because of the efforts of Mr. Barton. Some of them are pleased by the news that he's no longer in the building.
I still chuckle at the story of Brad going up to one of his underlings (when he was acting n.d.) and telling the guy: "I don't think you ought to be having any more children." "Whey do you say that?" says the guy. " just saw your wife... she's pregnant" says Brad. "She's not pregnant. She's just fat!" was the reply...
Then there was the fellow Brad told to change religions, because "Catholics are wrong". It's amazing the guy didn't file a complaint against his then-supervisor.
Brad showed a very disrespectful attitude towards some of the other meteorologists in the market, which was counter-productive, since weather forecasting is a collaborative science. I found it troubling that he would dis another professional for a forecast, then forget to apologize when that forecast was correct, and his was wrong.

A good point, Don...
But after reading all the glowing tributes and accolades, I don't think he's really so down.
I anticipate he is getting a severance package (something the aforementioned former KRLD employees didn't get) and will continue receiving tens of thousands of dollars worth of personal endorsement fees. Think of it this way: When someone is nominated for canonization, the Vatican appoints a 'Devil's Advocate' to look into the candidate's life, to see if he or she is worthy. Maybe there are a few things y'all should know before you elevate 'Uncle Brad' to sainthood.

This is Brad Barton. This is the first time I've been on Radio info for a long time...so long I couldn't remember my alias.
1. Bob Crowley was dismissed from KRLD because of what he did. He, I and several others know what he did. Three other employees were dismissed for mishandling severe weather coverage, but I never once recommended that they be fired. I said they needed more training and offered to do it. Not one of those terminations was ever succesfully challenged. At least one is still a friend of mine.
2. I've never even heard the pregnant woman story before tonight. I never told anyone such a thing. Ask around.
3. I did disagree with Bob Crowley over Catholicism but never told him or anyone else that they should change religions.
4. Meteorologists, just as news anchors often make fun of each others' mistakes. I'm sure that my radio coverage and absolutely certain that my brief tv career gave much entertainment to other forecasters in the area. To my knowledge, only one tv meterologist in the market has had a competetive problem with me, based on something I said once on the air without identifying that person by name. I regret that smart-alec remark of probably 10 years ago and I have not repeated it.
5. When Bob Crowley was in need, I sold him my father's low-mileage, gently used car for $1,000 which was $500 less than it was worth.
6. One more thing, Bob. The Evolution file referred to the evolution of KRLD from a news-bloc/news-talk station to an all-news operation. It contained written records required from every performance-related conference I had with ANY employee, positive or negative, regardless of race. The employee who sued us longer than he worked for us, found the file while rifling through my unlocked weather office overnight. When its contents and purpose were sent to the court, the suit was settled within 48 hours. THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR KIND WORDS AND SUPPORT!

I stand by my posts, and dispute 'Open Mic's points, one through five, as factually incorrect.

Whew! Bob needs to come out and refute the Brad's statements. At thisjuncture it "appears" Brad was forthright ,direct and truthful. That being said there are 2 sides,so Bob (I know you read this) I think you better come on and go over each one of Brad's points and defend yourself.

When was KRLD *EVER* an all-news operation? Quick, somebody mail that file to PD Bigby, wherever he's programming/officing from (Chicago?) What a cool concept for KRLD to try sometime!

Challenge away, but KEWS-94.9 STILL remains the only all-news 24/7 station we've ever had in DFW. I remember how some KRLD folks used to battle Alan Balthrop in his "Radio Digest" columns over that. One of his columns that's still on the web stated, "August 31, 1998, marks the 684th consecutive day without an all-news radio station in the eighth largest broadcast market within United States." (and he updated the date and count weekly as the final word in his column each time.) BTW, THAT'S where we used to get local radio news on the web before Radio-Info and RadioEmporium came along. Check out this for a sample: http://web.archive.org/web/19990429014932/www.radiodigest.com/dallas/dal_index.htm
