Brad Davis Still the Dumbest Talk Show Host

Brad Davis retains his title as dumbest talk show host in CT.

Yesterday I heard him present a totally illogical defense of Kia Vaughn's slander lawsuit against Don Imus. I won't get into the details of his logic (or lack of) but basically it it boiled down to, "Don Imus must have meant to slander Kia because why else would he have said it?" Does that make sense? It didn't to me either.

Then today he was on a 15-minute harangue about convicted terrorist Jose Padilla. No problem with that except he continually mispronounced the man's name everytime he said it.

It doesn't rhyme with "tortilla", Brad. It's pronounced "puh-DILL-uh."

Spare yourself the embarassment Brad and retire.

I'm no fan of many of Brad's views, but his pronunciation is correct. Either one is correct:

AP Pronunciation Guide: "Jose Padilla -- hoh-ZAY' puh-DEE'-uh"

Voice of America Pronunciation Guide: "PADILLA, JOSE ho-SAY pah-DILL-ah"

Limbaugh made the same comment today. It should be Pa-DEE-ya, but is often anglicized for Americans. I have heard folks with that surname use either pronunciation here in the States...

The pronunciation is based on how the individual and the family pronounce it. In this case it's puh-DILL-uh. I remember when this case first entered the news and I thought the network announcers were screwing up by not pronouncing it to rhyme with tortilla.

But I had it wrong and the news readers were right. Apparently Brad never caught on to that.

His lawyers have pronounced his name both ways. News anchors/reporters pronounce his name both ways (on the same network no less). You can find better things to blast Brad for than this, such his unwavering support for our beloved former governor.

The things you have to do to fill a 4 1/2 hour talk show in morning drive...and it's not easy. Try finding stuff to fill on a slow news day (and I realize there hasn't been many over the last couple of months).

>Try finding stuff to fill on a slow news day (and I realize there hasn't been many over the last couple of months).

It's seems to always be a slow news day in CT unless

1. The legislature is in session or it's election season.

and

2. The Huskies are playing.

Tell you what...I would LOVE to see any of you posers , critics , and wannabe's fill a live all talk morning drive show as the lead. YOU prep it YOU direct it and YOU execute it...MOST of you (actually I bet ALL of you ) would fall flat on your face...Do I listen to Brad Davis? No...But I know that there are lots of tallented people out there who make it sound easy creating little bi#(hes like most of you to talk junk and say this one and that one sucks...
Any of you ever do a SUCCESSFUL talk show on MORE than a college station or a small market station that meant NOTHING?
I don't listen to Brad but, I have met him and he is a PRO!
Entertain for 4 hours a day for as long as he has THEN talk S#!t
so...go on start bashing me...give it your best...I'll ALWAYS win cause I have been there done that and COULDN'T care less about what you say about me...But, it annoys me beyond all to see you bash tallented and nice people.
:)

Brad Davis is the poseur. Does anyone remember back 20 years ago when Brad was a denim-wearing flaming liberal? He changed his tune to save his job when the new GM took over with his "John Birch" values. Rush Limbaugh was having so much success that they all felt Brad needed to be re-tooled and he did so willingly.

Brad approaches his right-wing constituency with an unthinking, unfeeling, "my country right or wrong" philosophy.
He panders to his mostly geriatric audience with pseudo-patriotic flag-waving and phony pious homilies.

so...go on start bashing me...give it your best...I'll ALWAYS win cause I have been there done that and COULDN'T care less about what you say about me...

Do you mean that you've done a talk show? I certainly hope your oral presentation is better than your spelling and written grammar.

yes I would always spell my breaks on air...I find it really helps fill the time between spots
I was on the verge of something huge
I-t-'s F-I-V-E O'-C-L-O-C-K A-T ....
When all else fails...Go for a spelling error...YOU GOT NOTHING...Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Your original post showed that you have the same illogical mindset as Brad Davis so I can see why you would defend him.

But, in your original post you also said you "couldn't care less" what was said about you. Yet here you are responding to and defending something that was said about you. It just doesn't seem logical.

Back in the early 80s when Brad was on AM & FM he would end each show saying, "Ladies, keep those jeans tight."

"My friends...Good morning, Good morning." In fairly evaluating someone's radio career and performance, it should be more of a total picture than one questionable pronunciation. I admit to saying Padilla like "tortilla" myself the couple of times that name has come up. Having worked with Brad, I can't say there are too many of his political opinions I agree with. However, I found him to be very positive and appreciative when he liked the job you did. He never seemed to adopt the "I look better when you look worse" attitude toward co-workers. There are countless community causes, some not so controversial, that Brad promoted. He is not everyone's talk radio cup of tea, and he'll be the first to admit that. I do remember one Saturday morning when it was all he could do to keep that tough ex-Marine exterior while talking about caring for our veterans. Love him, hate him or indifferent, Brad is Brad... truly one of a kind and one of the few local radio names that people remember. On some level, you've got to give the guy some credit for hanging in there.

Amen, Glenn. It is a shame that people choose to bash somebody like Brad. If pronunciations and misunderstanding somebody else's opinion are the issue, I'm thinking this topic's dead. Those two things hardly qualify Brad for the "Dumbest Talk Show Host". My guess is that award went to Don Imus a few months back for his nappy headed ho's comment...after all - Brad still has a microphone.

Pro? lol...

He's become a low-rent has been. He's a grumpy old man who complains that the word "Christmas" is omitted from Seasons Greetings.

Im am going to say this, at his age, his ratings are still rising and he still has a talk show even when most Newsmen or Media personalties are put out to pasture so that says something right there. I doubt rick Buckley would even cut him a check if he wasn't asset to the company

I'm not a fan of Brad and you can bash the hell out of him all you want. Maybe he's still the "Dumbest Talk Show host." Maybe he had to toe the line when new management took over, as alluded in another post. The fact remains that, at the end of the day, he still carries a lot of name equity in the state. Believe me, for every person that bashes him, there are at least 10 others who would love to trade places with Brad in a nanosecond with the salary he makes. There are folks out there who, to this day, still reverently remember him from his days when he hosted that dance show on Channel 3...aka "The Milk Show." I believe Brad would be humbled and flattered by all the attention he's getting on this message board.

Whether you love him, hate him or love to hate him, he's at the point in his career where he can write his own ticket and leave on his own terms. Not too many people in this industry can say that.

I just can't imagine that anyone active on this board can claim that they have a following (young or old) as large or devoted as Brad's. Your suggestion that he's "The Dumbest Talk Show Host" is noted. Stop bashing him and back off. By the way, among other frequencies on the AM dial, may I suggest 1080. . . . you may be able to squeak out a few extra IQ points there on a good day; or maybe even right next door at 1030 and you can get Boston area traffic every 10 minutes!!
