Brad Field WVIT Anniversary

And I remember watching him on WLNE before they hired the million-dollar man "John Ghiorse", who made very little difference in their ratings (but at least got them out of hashtags).

Who could forget the "dream team" of Brad Field and Steve Cascione -- with their fancy weather computer system that WPRI and WJAR didn't have at the time?

Two words: Poor. Signal.

WLNE-6's analog signal was very poor, especially in Providence and points north (due to co-channel interference with WCSH Portland).

Because of WCSH's presence, WLNE's analog transmitter was in Tiverton, Rhode Island (southeast of Providence), whereas WJAR-10 and WPRI-12's analog (and now digital transmitters) were (and are) in Rehobeth, Massachusetts, just east of the Rhode Island/Massachusetts border. It could not be any further north because of WCSH.

I'm still shocked that WLNE actually had a revolutionary idea before their two main rivals! :D

It is hard to believe! In early 80's (IIRC, in early 1982), WLNE actually correctly forecast two major snowstorms (12 to 16 inches of snow), while WJAR and WPRI were forecasting flurries to maybe an inch of snow. WLNE's fancy weather system worked, but still didn't attract viewers.
