Brad Messer "retired" from KTSA

Brad has been openly critical on his web site of both CBS and BMP management's restrictions against mentioning personal web sites on the air. Considering how he used his web site to prominently plug the advertisers he endorsed on his show, I felt like he had a legitimate gripe.

I'd predict he'll catch on elsewhere, but Brad's been in SA a long time and the only "elsewheres" for a local talker are places he has criticized on his show for having "hateful" syndicated talkers.

I hope KTSA doesn't start running Bill O'Reilly in Brad's slot, like CBS used to do when he went on vacation. :'( There's no indication on ktsa.com yet of him being gone and they're still running spots that he recorded.

Here are the changes to the KTSA weekday lineup announced today.

9-11 AM Jack Riccardi
11 AM-1 PM Ricci Ware
7-10 PM Clark Howard

While I like Clark Howard's show, I'm sad to see the loss of 15 hours a week of local talk in the market.

Here's more about Brad, from the Express-News My SA blog:

That was a good read. Thanks for sharing.

Brad seemed like a good guy. He was very humble and self-effacing compared to many in the broadcasting biz. Interesting that his producer was let go, too.

Jack Riccardi said this morning that his AM show would be using the same producer and board op as his nighttime show had before. With local talk ending at 7 PM now, there must be some behind-the-scenes consolidation happening at KTSA.

That is really sad. I had fun running the board for brad for three years. His sense of humor was like no other. In my opinion brad was always a perfect host to all his guest. He appreciated everything you did in making his show one of the best shows around. He love his listeners even the wacky ones. Brad will always be my mentor an inspiration in what I do in life. God Bless my friend and I hope to hear you again.

Brad has updated his web site.

My friends, thanks so much for the email. I do want to make clear that KTSA said I could do my show for another couple of weeks if I wanted to take time to say goodbye, but I chose the quick, clean exit.

He has also excerpted dozens of well-wishing emails that he received.
