Brad Out At KWNR

The latest is that Brad Booker wasn't fired. He has accepted the morning position at KMLE/Phoenix. He will be working for CBS competing against CCs KNIX.

It's tough for a station to win with constant turn over, either on the air or in management. We were talking about this very subject regardig CBS Radio's sluggish ratings in a previous tread. If you look at the stations in Vegas that are winning (KOMP, KKLZ, Point, KSNE, etc), they have had consistency over the years with familiar voices on the air. As well as managers that know the market and have strong relationships with decision makers in Vegas. KWNR (or any station) will never win going thru 4 different morning shows and (so to be) 3 PD's in two years.

Best of luck to Brad in Pheonix. I'm sure he's in a better and more stable place.

KWNR used to be a station with a consistent staff as well. Maybe if they would have stayed that way they would be in a better position today.

When they dumped Mitch Kelly in the morning years ago it was all over at KWNR only they were too dumb to know it.

FROM THE PHOENIX BOARD:

Brad Booker will be joining the morning show for KMLE. He spent the last year at CCs KWNR/Las Vegas mornings. I heard the ratings were very poor, as low as the one share range 25-54 at times. But to be fair it's not all his fault, KWNR has been a damaged brand well before he started there.

Before Vegas Booker did mornings at the CBS Hot AC in Houston (before being replaced by syndicated Kidd Kraddick) and in New Orleans.

You are correct. It's not even mostly his fault. The station had been broken LONG before he got there. And it'll be a difficult and long road for Clear Channel to turn it around. Honestly, with the way they operate, I doubt they'll ever be able to fix it. Their model is voice tracking and programming from outside of the market. That model doesn't work, especially when you're in a head to head battle with a station that has a smart programmer and a large (in comparison) motivated live and local staff.
