Brad Perry to GMA!?!

Newsblues is reporting that GMA is seriously looking at Brad Perry to fill the GMA weather position (since Tony Perkins is leaving later this year). Is this true???

Someone on TVSpy asked the question why Today and GMA like black male weathermen. He too alluded that Brad Perry is being considered (but did not say considered for what?). I find that hard to believe. Brad's only training in weather is being on the golf course in the blazing sun and asking where the cart girl is or going outside after a rainstorm and stating it's one knuckle deep. If you asked Brad about a "cut off low" he would reply that it is a pair of low-rider jeans that he made into shorts. If they are looking for a wannabe stand up comic to join the show, then Brad could be their man.

With the number of ABC stations on or near the East Coast there should be plenty of meteorologists to fill in when the regulars are gone, it seemed strange that ABC-15's Kaley O'Kelley has done two fill-ins on GMA-Weekend over the last few months. That might hint that GMA was looking at her as either Tony's replacement (she does weekday morning weather today) or for the weekend.

Does anyone else have any info if and why Brad might be in the running?

Two things -- Brad IS a stand-up comic. That's what he was doing when he got the Channel 3 job, and he still does stand-up occasionally at the Tempe Improv.

On the subject of Kaley O'Kelley, it's hard to believe she'd be considered. What's next -- Craig Fouhy doing Monday Night Football?

Oh, wait. The Cardinals don't play on Monday nights. He wouldn't know who to shill for.

No Brad WANTS to be a stand up comedian. Most people that I have talked to that have seen his act at the Improv have not been impressed. It's basically a rowdier version of what he does on 3-TV. Brad thinks he is funny.

The thing I brought up about Kaley is why would ABC bring her across country not once but twice to do a one or two day fill in for the weekend weather? There have to be hundreds of other weather personalities located closer to the Big Apple that they could have tapped as a replacement. Remember when Today had Sean McLaughlin from 12 did a number of fill ins and the next thing you know he was moving to MSNBC and Weekend Today. Just a thought!

Brad Perry to GMA? -- Naw!

Who started this rumor -- brad??
An organization I belong to had him on the short list of possible emcees this year for a major event for about 5,000 attendees. When they actually viewed his work -- No Way!! It might have been great if the average age was 10.
(I was rooting for Heidi Fogelsong)

Brad Perry and others on GMA list

NewsBlues is where the report surfaced. Today's notes state that ABC is also looking at Jerry Brown of KTNV ABC-13 in Las Vegas, Bill Walsh of WCSC CBS-5 in Charleston, SC, and CNN's Chad Meyers. NB also states that ABC insiders say that the network is looking for a "fun personality" and isn't concerned about their meteorological training and background.

If they're considering Brad Perry, it goes without saying they're not concerned.

I think the network morning shows want a fun personality to be their weatherperson. If I wanted a strong weatherperson, I would turn to the Weather Channel. Brad would do a good job at GMA and bring some excitement. I don't watch GMA much, but Perkins seems kind of stiff.

Probably to give a local weatherperson some national exposure. I'm sure that Kaley pushed for it too. I would fly out to NYC for a day to get people looking at me. PHX is a growing market but imagine being on a newscast in NYC or LA.

What a rediculous rumor. Can you imagine GMA having to turn to Brad Perry to explain the dynamics of a major hurricane threatening the U.S.?!? Just watching his local "forecasts" is painful. All he tries to do is read the high temperaturs on a map for the state that we can already see behind him... and he can't even do that well. What's worse, he's simply not funny nor entertaining. I am certain there can not be any truth to that rumor. That would be absolutely shocking.

Then again, I'm sure that the networks actually have meteorologists working behind the scenes assisting "weather" anchors such as Tony Perkins, Al Roker, and the like.

Maybe so.
In fact, I'd bet the rent that networks do have some background assist.
But to hire Brad Perry at GMA, as a frontman for the nation's weather?

His ability to convey a simple request to the producer, to meet Larry King, showed the utmost in professionsm that this business is lacking.
"I'm pissed"
Let's all do the Perry!

With the likes of Chad Myers from CNN in the running for the gig, is it a real stretch to believe that Brad is seriously being considered?

Perry...

While Brad can be entertaining at times, he has many downfalls, the least of which is his inability to recognize where the line is until he has crossed it (not by inches but by yards). Brad suffers from words just flowing from his mouth with very little thought. He thinks he knows geography but constantly refers to the state north of Oklahoma as Nebraska (instead of Kansas) and calls the body of water south of Texas the "Golf". His knowledge of weather is limited and most of what he says on the air is his interpretation of the SAT/RAD composite (look at the pretty colors) and everything becomes "havin' some activity".

At KTVK, I believe that Brad builds his own graphics for the weather segment. Sometimes, when he is in the field, I know that Dan Davis has put them together. I'm sure that someone (with weather knowledge) taught them how to pull maps, graphics, etc. and put them into a package. If there is background help at GMA and they write a script for Brad he might do alright. Then again, can Brad follow a script?

Brad "on vacation" this week

And now, Brad is "on vacation" this week and nobody knows where he is? Could he be in the Big Apple for an interview?

Brad's "What I did on vacation"

> And now, Brad is "on vacation" this week and nobody knows

Did you catch the return of Brad on Monday's GMAZ? Everyone asked him how his vacation was and where did he go. Brad was very tight lipped and just said he did a little traveling, including a hint that he was on both the East and West coast during the week. Tara played up the "rumor" that he was being looked at as a replacement for Tony Perkins on Good Morning America and kept laughing at it like someone from Channel 3 had created the rumor. Brad just tried to change the topic and went on with his weather "forecast".

Considering all the posts regarding the GMA opening in the previous two weeks, it has gotten very quiet.
