Brad Riter

I really missed Brad at GR and it's so great to hear him at night again on WECK........His show is great. Loved listening him talk to Ed Kilgore again the other night. And, he can really go off the board with things like his CD mix collection last night.

I heard him announce just the other night that they figured out how to simulcast him on WLVL and that is going to happen "real soon".

That oughta increase his cume to an even dozen!

Just kidding.

What kind of numbers, however, can they reasonably expect?

Don't think it's a matter of numbers with WECK. It's more a matter of "response" or "buy in," at least from the ownership and management's perspective. How can WECK, given the nature of its present format, put up big numbers going up againt WGR or WBEN? It can't. So WECK is selling the local angle--- which is fine, until Entercom releases the hounds on the street and ask WECK's clients, "Why are you even spending money on WECK when you can buy WBEN, WGR and even WWKB and reach infinitely more people?"

Advertising dollars are tighter than ever. Whether the buys are agency or direct, clients will go with the station that delivers the greatest return on investment. Sure, WECK will be an inexpensive alternative to WBEN, WGR or WWKB, but when the Cost Per Thousand (CPM) numbers are presented to clients (especially agencies), they may not be so eager to buy the "local" angle.

IIRC, when WECK was Music of Your Life, it ranked as high as #3 Persons 12+. WECK could do a 3 share 12+ with a Stanadards-Oldies format today and they already have the (morning drive) personnel to do it. That 3 share would be about 2 shares higher than what WECK will get with its present format. Then again, it's not about numbers. At least for a while. But the clock is ticking. Wait until the Spring book comes out some time in July and the street hustlers at Entercom get their marching orders. It won't be pretty.

Just my buck tree eighty.

Excellent. That makes TWO stations I can't pick up where I live. Guess I'll still be waiting for the Web stream...

Or buy on one station and get the other two free! ;)

Yes and WECK had five or six shares 12+. Pretty amazing. But that was 10 to 15+ years ago and I think the time for that format has long passed. I'd wager that current management would garner more from the current format at a 2 share than adult standards at a four share.

Still I think if I were the current WECK I would hedge my bet by incorporating music that isn't heard on the dial into at least the morning show---oldies/MOR/standards, whatever. And as much as I enjoy sports I'm not sure the weekend lineup is strong enough.

I think WECK needs to invest about $275 million to buy the top-of-the-line doo-dads, not to mention grease the proper palms to ensure a signal increase up to 50kw.

Then I would hire Rush Limbaugh away from Premiere and have him do just a local show on WECK. Some people might even move here from wherever they live, just to hear Rush---which would help the local economy.

I would then, at least in the first couple books, have million dollar Thursdays, where caller number 10 (after hearing the WECK windchimes) wins, you guessed it, $1 million.

Let's not forget the TV campaign to stir up more interest in the new WECK. A national Super Bowl ad may make sense. It certainly would help entice more people to move here to listen to Rush on the new WECK---which would be good for the local economy.

If WECK management does all of these things, I could almost guarantee
a 5 share.

12+, of course.

25-54?

Nevermind that. Sell solutions, not ratings.

If the callers on Tradio are any indication, the station's doing quite well 65+. Have to say I was intrigued by the gentleman who was offering a jar of buttons for sale.

What? No velcro?
