Poor Jeff, he did the 5AM news AND the 5PM news on Wednesday. Hope Kathy sprung for a room for him at a nearby Motel 6 to crash in between shifts.

And, if this is just temporary while Valentine finds new co-anchors for the AM shows, who's he going to pick? Deborah Duncan was the quintessential hostess. Vivacious, multi-talented, dynamic and fun to watch, but she's already settled in at Belo's KHOU. And if he goes for the classic blow-dried, plastic male host (a la "PM Magazine"), viewers will tune away in droves. So where do you find a ego-less Scott Sams-type and a similarly-talented Deborah Duncan-type? It wasn't that many years ago when Suzie Humphries was paired with any male host they could find on Ch 8's old "News Eight Etc" show, including John Criswell. Then they spun Criswell off into his own "AM" show later, with little success.

Here's my picks for GMT: Larry Dixon (provided he can hide his industry burnout) and Midge Hill. Both very familiar to local audiences, both are probably attractive still, and both have long reputations as being audience-friendly and sincere. Cogill's ok for comic relief, but he should only come in small doses (like the "Why Guy") and not leaned upon to carry the whole morning show. And, budget or not, change up the set. Looks too much like a 50-something's reading room.

And the big question: How on earth do you fit Alexa into any of these future plans??? (Easy...you DON'T. Buckle her up and head her back to GREECE.)

Valentine = Change for the sake of change (and hoping things will fall into place by themselves later and will make him a hero)

SS get yourself back to work -- its more fun to tell someone who is working how to do their job.

Hello Texastime,

That's what i have had... a LOT of Texas time to reflect and learn! One thing i have learned is to never tell anyone else how to do their job. I was just responding to Prez that a person can become VERY Humbled when that person is "let go" after 20 years with one company. thanks for your comments. ss
