Brahm Resnick

I've noticed that 12 News Weekend Anchor Brahm Resnick has disappeared from the Saturday evening newscasts and the Sunday Morning newscast. It seems that he now only anchors on Sunday evenings. Does anyone know if this is a permanent change?

If true, this leaves 12 News with an oddity here in Phoenix, an all African-American newsteam on Saturdays. And, most importantly, the unwatchable Melissa Gonzalo by herself on Sunday mornings. I'm not sure who's worse: Mellissa or Carey Pena over on 3TV (is Tess Rafols ever coming back from maternity leave???).

It sounds like a budget move to me. 3 has been solo anchor on weekends since Frank Camacho moved to a weekday schedule, 5 had Christina Wofford solo, 15 had Jon Dupree (I know, they've both been replaced) Friday & Saturday, since Katie & Steve work Sunday-Thursday. 10 still dual anchors, but they've got 90 minutes to air.

I've noticed at least the past 3 Sunday mornings Resnik hasn't been there. While Melissa Gonzalo is getting better she needs a co-anchor. I think I was switching channels Sunday night and only saw Kim Convington. I wondered if Resnik is still with KPNX but he's still on their website.

I haven't watched Saturdays so not sure if Joe Dana and Syleste Rodriguez work together. I think 12 News has interesting weekend pairing with Dana & Rodriguez, Resnik & Covington and Resnik & Gonzalo.

Speaking of all African-American newsteam that is interesting. Even in a huge Black market like Detroit I don't remember ever seeing that. I believe KPNX is the only "Big 5" station that could pull that off. Could any station do an all Latino newsteam?

From what I can tell, Joe and Syleste are still paired on Saturday mornings. I believe that Joe was on vacation last Saturday. I definitely agree that Melissa Gonzalo needs a good co-anchor to be tolerable.

As for an all-Latino newsteam, KENS-5 in San Antonio tried it a few years ago on their weekday am and noon newscasts. The ratings didn't improve so they went in a different direction.

Past weekend: 22-23 February 2009.

Saturday Morning: Dana & Rodriguez
Saturday Afternoon & Evening: Covington
Sunday Morning: Gonzalo
Sunday Afternoon & Evening: Covington & Resnik

Not sure if Brahm will be back on Sunday mornings. Gonzalo never said "Resnik has the morning off."

I was away this past weekend, but the anchor line-up has been that way for 4 or 5 weeks now. Melissa has never said that, "My co-anchor Brahm Resnick has the morning off." (which is normally what she would say).

I suppose that 12 News wants to use Brahm as a reporter more frequently during the week. I would guess that Saturday night ratings are relatively low. Covington, unlike Gonzalo, does a FINE job by herself and is a very energetic news anchor. As for weekend mornings, they may need to move Gonzalo back to Saturdays with Data and have Rodriguez solo anchor on Sundays. Or I wonder how Jerrid Sebesta would do as a Sunday morning co-anchor (still have Caribe do the weather)???
