Brand Trashed???

With constant frequency moves, has the 99x brand been trashed? Is it time to burry 99x and start again?

It's time to retire "99X." Like I said in another thread, still calling it 99X (@ 100.5) would be RIDICULOUS! Doing it on a translator (@ 97.9) is bad enough but on an actual frequency is just asinine!

If the Alternative format is moved to 100.5 they could brand it as "100.5 The X."

Maybe payback for Cumulus picking up the "Rock" moniker when CC dropped it when they got rid of 96 Rock. Q100 was Power 99 before they were 99X. Of course, that was back in the Susquehanna days.

Probably because of the old Power 99. If Power 99 were still around, this is probably what it would sound like.

I don't really know what the meaning is, but it was the first format on 100.5 after the signal move from Anniston to Atlanta. "q100.5" just stuck, and then they moved it to 99.7, a larger signal by about 75kW.

Back before "NOW", "AMP", "CHANNEL", etc, "Q" and "Z" were THE brands for Top 40 stations. They would always have a Q or Z in their call letters, usually at the end.

Never Clear Channel nor any of their predecessors in ATL (Gulf Broadcasting, Taft, Great American, Citicasters, Jacor). 99.7 was owned by Meredith (the current owner of Channel 46) back in the early 1970s, who sold it to Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff in the late 1970s, and became part of Cumulus when Cumulus Media Partners (Cumulus + outside investors, since folded into Cumulus proper) bought Susquehanna in the 00s.

No idea what the Q stands for. Maybe Susie Q AFAIK.

Just thought about it 3 stations all brand themselves using a single letter. B98.5, V103 and Q100. I'd guess the V in V103 stands for Variety?
