A station can call itself whatever it wants to, so long as trademarks are not violated and the call letters and COL are announced once an hour.

Your first two questions you need to clarify. I don't understand what you're trying to say.

Be careful Z100 is trademark / service mark of Clear Channel;

You could always put in an extra latter like (A-Z) / Z100 like KZ100 (if nobody has your state or US trade / service marked it). Personally I would used the name of the "retail trade area" or City. There was a station in the 80's (Country IIRC) called Alabama 100 which I kinda thought was easy to remember and comes in handy when with Arbitron logs. You can always use the call letters thank to the MTM verses WKRP ruling.

Google's not helping me out with that.

Was there a court case between MTM productions and a real-life radio station?

This is interesting, because I have a Z-100 bumper sticker in my collection, and I don't remember where I got it! ??? I'm thinking that it was Hopkinsville, KY, because they may have had a Z-100 radio station when I lived in Clarksville, TN, 20 years ago. The sticker only reads "Z-100," nothing else, and it is blank on the back.
