Now that the Loop streams, I can now hear Johnny every morning (I live many miles
away from Chicago).

Having heard him in his first run at the Loop, I feel like he's lost a step. Anyone
agree? Or disagree? He's very smooth, and very upbeat, and has excellent
pacing...BUT he's just not FUNNY anymore. It's like he has nothing to prove.
His show doesn't seem to be ''edgy'' anymore. It isn't ''dangerous''...or
unpredictable. It almost seems he should be on an AC station instead of a
rock station because he's just ''light'' and ''happy'' now.

Am I wrong?

Brandmeier is exactly the same, it is you who has grown and matured, moved on and past the sophomoric stuff...this happens when we grow-up

Sirius sucks. It's like cable tv. Sure, you have a zillion channels, but you wind up listening to
only 3 or 4 stations.

Sirius is better than the same ol' crap that is duplicated on Chicago radio.

NO DJ's!!!!!!!!

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Back in 1991-93 I started/owned and programmed a station called the Blaze. Former WFYR 103.5.

I instituted all 80's hairbands. Classic heavy metal with a heavy clock and minimal rotation. The jocks shouted time and temp and a little bio on each band. I held out and sold the station 4 years later to Evergreen Media for $40 Million. Inturn I started a media outlet consisting of buying and selling formats to smaller markets.

Sirius bought my format clock and it is Hair-Nation 23

Thus, I am devoted to Siriuis.

I don't know what you mean by minimal rotation. I remember the Blaze playing "Don't Treat Me Bad" by Firehouse about every 15 minutes the day it signed on.

Most of that hair band crap is not "classic heavy metal" by the way.

And the question is still out there--I asked what you like on Sirius, not why you shill for them.

The fact that he had anything to do with The Blaze is still in question, anyway. He's done nothing but lie here so far; why believe this ridiculous claim?

Nothing to see here...which is why he has to get his attention by spewing crap on a radio board.

I'm just surprised to see a Blaze reference. It was such a flash in the pan for a year or two, that even people who listened to it would be hard pressed to remember the name unless you told them.

WWBZ sucked. Its latter incarnation, WRCX, was 10 million times better as a hard rock station.

If you programmed that station, (Autograph, Ratt and Poison in the mid 90's???) you should be ashamed.

???Whoah people!!! How do we go from an innocent observation about Johnny to ripping the Blaze. I enjoyed the Blaze when it was around. It came at the right time. Then along came Mancow and Rock 103.5, and the rest is history. The original post was about Johnny losing his edge and not being as funny as he was back in the day. For my money, Johnny B. is the all time heavyweight champ of Chicago FM morning radio!! I too live many mile from Chicago, and have for over 6 years now. Morning radio in this town could not be any more pathetic. Thanks to a major station format shuffling, we now have an FM talk station anchored by Mancow in the morning. Thank god for that. For once we have something that Chicago does not have. I've noticed a change in his show as well. The Cow is not 28 and chugging beer and smoking dope and chasing women around anymore. He is now married and has twin girls. Say what you want about him, but I feel he is changing with the times and has become a fantastic host as opposed to a shock jock (which I don't think he ever was). Same goes for King Johnny. He is now 50 ish and needs to change. It would seem awfully odd for him to keep acting like the overgrown Frat Boy that he used to be. Now that the LOOP has live streaming, I can listen to him. Yep he seems different, but it's still Johnny and he's better than anyone in this town. And now I have the Cow too. Talk about a dilemma....I liked it better when Mancow did mornings on Rock 103.5 and Johnny did afternoons on the LOOP. Talk about the best of both worlds!!! Now c'mon people, stop bickering over the defunct blaze from 15 years ago and pay some props to the great Johnny B!!! I can't be the only one who was at the almighty show at Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates that happens to be the biggest crowd ever at the venue narrowly edging out the Monkees reunion tour. Now that's saying something. By the way, anybody know the whereabouts of Buzz...ya know, the bluesman newsman??

I never said anything bad against the BLAZE. I enjoyed it very much. In fact, they sponsored my bowling team. We wore T-shirts and had hand towels with their logo and the works. One of the guys was an engineer for them and he hooked us up. Long live the hair bands!! I'm with you. To be honest with you, WVVX, the brainchild of a truly great rock jock named Scott Loftus, was far superior to the BLAZE. It came first incidentally. They flourished and grew and grew on a weak FM signal that wasn't even in stereo. It was all Spanish during the day and all Metal at night. If it were not for VVX, the BLAZE would never have had half the success it did. You should be thanking Loftus...OOPS, I just remembered...didn't he do afternoons on the BLAZE. You must have seen something there.

I remember loftus doing nights on the blaze and afternoons and nights on rock 103.5. After his format was dumped by y108. Loftus did say in a IE interview a few years later that Y108 was gonna be full time rocker to compete with the blaze, did not happen because the station was sold.

Buzz is working with Steve Dahl afternoons at WCKG which also streams. They are on from 2:00 to 7:00. Also, if you really want a dilemma of who to listen to, don't forget about Kevin Matthews who does mornings at WLAV in Grand Rapids, MI. They also stream.

Thanks for the update on Buzz. I'm glad he's still working in Chicago. That's where he belongs. But I just don't see him working well with Dahl. I can't see Buzz taking all the BS that Dahl usually dishes out. Thanks for the word on Kev too. I hope he's doing well going back to his roots!!
