Looks like Mike is doing weekends on HJY>>>>>> almost seems like they're beefing up staff to send a message to the full-timers.

Why would that send a message to the full timers? HJY has never had any shortage of weekenders.

In other words....."Go ahead P & A, ask for more money......we have Quinn and Cantera ready to go", etc. With the talent they have now with Q & C, Missy, Brangiforte, Doug, nobody is irreplaceable. Doug does a very good job when he fills in mornings as well.

More likely their just bringing in people to cover the regular's summer vacation shifts.

Yeah I'm sure Missy and Brangiforte are big threats to P & A. Mike is a fair jock but it made sense to hire him for weekends. When you look back at KKB he really was one of the few who wasn't pretty bad and he was MD and the music is what made that station. So he has a little recognition on the rock and roll airwaves so why not put him on weekends? I doubt he'll be there forever since sooner or later he'll have to land full time somewhere and pt at HJY is a good vehicle while you're looking. His best bet is probably to just go look for a programming gig in a small market at this point.

I'm not so sure Mike wants to program. He always seemed happy just being Mike. I'm glad he's working again. Perhaps CC has bigger plans for him elsewhere. We all know they're doing multiple stations at night for Q&C (Hi Steve!). Perhaps Mike will enjoy a bigger role at one of their NE properties. Perhaps he does want to program, and they see bigger things for Alex James in Manchester, and want to put Mike up there. Always good to have a strong bench.

Regardless of people's personal feelings, CC aren't stupid. They make a lot of money, and their rock stations here in NE are all VERY good. I've been all around the country, and WGIR, WHEB, and WHJY all sound better than a lot of stations in bigger markets.

We're spoiled as radio listeners here. Take a trip elsewhere, and you'll appreciate it much more.

Small mkt?

Think big!

He was MD @AAF -

Think he'd rather be MD @a larger station than a PD at a smaller!

Maybe he'll be the new PD @'AAF!

Good for Mike! I always liked him and thought he was one of the better jocks on AAF back in the day. I really think he "fits in" with the other staff at 'HJY - congrads Mike!

That's a good point about getting a foot in the door at any station since it opens up opportunities at other stations owned by the same company and it's easier to make the move and hear about the openings as an insider. I just think for guys working rock you have to settle in and stay somewhere awhile or you run the risk of just becoming a radio rat looking for a station where the format hasn't passed you by. CHR and AC jocks have this tendency to be open to other formats if they have to be. Rockers don't and you're at a disadvantage if you don't establish yourself or make some smart career moves. Hopefully Mike will be able to since he's still young and has the MD experience. KKB may have been a forgettable station but he's got WAAF on the resume.

Brangi wants to program, he has since KKB. He should of been the pd there.
