Braves on Peachtree TV

I had read that WPCH deal ran out after this season too. I was puzzled when the Braves kept saying their tv deals were locked in long term.

The package for 45 Braves games moves from Peachtree TV to Fox Sports South/SportSouth in a new deal.

Who's decision was this? Turner or Meredith? I believe 2013 was the last year in this deal, so it ended a year early. Gotta hurt the station not to have the ratings these games bring in.

Also, it means no Braves games over-the-air in Atlanta or on basic cable in Canada.

It was probably Meredith, whom now manages the station. Time Warner/Turner should have NEVER gave Meredith the rights to manage the station's day-to-day operations. Hell, look at how they mismanage their fully-owned station, WGCL. That station is pathetic and cannot stick with anything for the life of it hence why it has such high turnover.

TW/Turner needs to reclaim this station and end their agreement with Meredith, ASAP before Peachtree TV winds up like the 2nd-incarnation of Turner South... ::)

Braves were a big part of this. PTV was willing to let them get out of the contract a year early, and the Braves really needed the added revenue.

Because of the rising rates all over baseball, Fox will actually be paying the Braves more for these 45 games than they do for the rest of the schedule combined. They also got Fox to agree to negotiate on more competitive financial terms on their long-term deal by the end of 2014.

Brice16,

Do you know how CSS got the rights for the Spring Training games they are showing?

The CSS spring training games are part of the package that allows them to show the AAA G-Braves games.

It doesn't hurt Me because I have the MLB package on Dish Network

I believe that with this, WPCH-17 is now out of the local play-by-play sports business.

Besides the Braves, they once had the Hawks (all non-network games now on regional cable sports networks), and the old Thrashers (who moved out of town). If my memory serves me correct, WPCH carried Friday-night Hawk games and Saturday-night Thrasher games.

This past year, they carried syndicated Southeastern Conference football and basketball, but I believe those games are also becoming cable-exclusive in Atlanta next year.

I don't think WPCH has ever carried pre-season Falcons games, but I could even see those go cable-exclusive, but if not, they may go to or stay on Fox's WAGA-5 since that station carries most Falcons' regular-season contests.

IIRC each NFL team made their "own" deal on preseason games. I believe whoever pays the Falcons the most $$$ will get the games. Didn't 2 or 11 have preseason games in the early 2000's? I believe you are correct about the Falcon preseason games never being on channel 17.

It's cool that you can hear NFL games from every team online now. I listened to all the Falcons and Broncos games online last season
