"BRAVES RADIO" wins dumbest programming idea of the year!

The problems at WGST begin at the top. But whoever thought to rebrand the station as Braves Radio ought to be made to leap from the roof of the Building of Death. Is WSB "Dawgs Radio"? Is Z93 "Falcons Radio"? Doesn't "Braves Radio" sound like exactly what the market doesn't need --- a 3rd failing sports stick?

One day this week I heard a newscast with the Governor crying over dead soldiers and then it's "Now here is your Braves update on Braves Radio" and then it's back to more war news. It is plain assinine. Who in God's name thinks that makes sense?

I listen to the games on 96 Rock ... their promos are better, their use of music rejoins are better, and --- of course --- their night signal is better. Face it, 96 Rock is a better programmed station. Why do you think that is?

I think I know why. It is totally impossible fot WGST to do anything against WSB. It's not even worth giving it a decent shot. WSB is so far ahead. Plus WGST's signal sucks even during the day. WSB is still going to be number one on the AM dial no matter what they do. It makes much more sense to spend more money and resources on 96 Rock which has a better signal and a better shot at good ratings.

day or night. WSB has the better signal, thus better chances of reaching out
to serious listeners, 96 has the same advantage, its really simple.. clear channel needs to understand trying to compete with such a crapp signal,
against a fm sister station, is plain idiocy, and trying with news on 640 is like am 1300 WIMO being a mainly talk station, whom are you going to reach?
radio hounds thats bout it. You know radio folks whom search with a radio
and listen for weak , distant signals to get off on the way it is programmed.
Yes thats me, too, but you see, WGST at 640 is the worst idea. It was better as WPBD, a urban music station, That rocked, this news thing is just crap.

News Flash!! Sell off WGST, Forget it, you cannot compete, Make
it a religious station, Spanish Station, or just forget it, WGST
is DEAD. I really think it would make better sense to move on this
while someone could be intrested. 640 am at a so called 50,000 watts,
yeah right, It would be neat to see someone purchase this freq, and do
something diffrent, that would work.

I disagree.

I happen to think that the marketing that went into the rebranding of the station was a progressive idea that in th elong run will reap major benefits for the station.

True the stations programming decisions leave much to be desired but I think this has probabaly helped GST gain new listeners and more awareness.

I would love to see some bottom line numbers to see how they have done from a financial point of view.

With their constantly running behind WSB I think GST needed to do something that would make people notice they were different.

"IF I WAS IN CHARGE OF WGST" And I had to make a descision on improving WGST's dillema, The first thing that I would do is invoke a little bit of deja-vu, There would be a return of WGST-FM on 105.3 and change the name to NewsRadio WGST AM640 and 105.3FM The news monster. But I am not in charge of WGST, and I only work at a little parts house.
