Braves Radio

I know that former longtime WTBS Superstation/ NWA/WWF/WCW announcer Tony Schuavone is interested. I don`t know if the Braves are interested. Tony started out as a minor league announcer for Jim Crockett Promotions in North Carolina in 1981. He always wanted to be a baseball announcer. However, they had him go full time with NWA Wrestling and he went full time on WTBS in 1985 to replace Gordon Solie. He left the NWA for the WWF in 1989, when Ted Turner bought out Jim Crockett and made WCW. Tony returned to the WCW in 1991 and stayed until it was sold to the wwe in 2001. He has worked at wsb am 750 and is working at wdun am in gainesville. He was the offical scorer for the Braves in 2002-2003. Any word if Tony will replace Pete Van Wierien?

I guess that the Braves decided that Tony wasn`t ready for the major league telecasts. However, he has had MANY years on big time TV broadcasts. He did countless NWA/WCW/WWF pay-per views and hosted the highly rated NWA/WCW Saturday Night/NWA/WCW Main Event and WCW Monday Nitro. Tony has a problem of hyping a certain night up too much. For example, he would say "This will go down as the Greatest Ever match of all times". On Braves Telecasts, will he say things like "This is the best pitched games of all times....."? In Wrestling, he would say this on an almost nightly basis. Will Bobby "The Brian" Heenan, Rowdy Roddy Piper or Nature Boy Ric Flair be joining Tony on the Braves Telecasts/radiocasts? "Whooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

If the Braves want Tony Schiavone I am sure he can be extricated from his Gwinnett Braves deal.

I believe his overhyping of matches on wrestling is part of wrestling. If anyone thinks he would call a baseball game like a wrestling match you do not understand wrestling. In wrestling they already know the winner before the match starts. It is all for show.

BTW one of the previous posters mentioned Bobby "The Brian" Heenan. Actually I beleieve he was The Brain not The Brian.

I think that Tony could do a good job for the Braves...... I remember watching Tony come up in the early 1980`s on NWA Wrestling in the Carolinas. He improved over time. I think that the over hyping of matches started when WCW hired Eric Bishoff has CEO of Turner Sports/WCW. In the final years of WCW`s existance, Tony said some things that were really off the wall. It has been proven over time that Bishoff and WCW bosses were making him say these things. I actually have met Tony over the years... Nice Guy. It was pretty much known and stated by him, that he only did Pro Wrestling for the paycheck and advancement chances at Turner. Who can blame him? I do love the old NWA Wrestling from the 1980`s that he was associated with. The WCW turned into a cartoon in its` final years due to bad management. Tony was not a matchmaker in the final days of WCW. However, there was a period in the early 1990`s, that Tony was a matchmaker at WCW (right before Eric Bishoff). There are GLOBS of Tony Schiavone NWA/WCW/WWF announced matches on You Tube. It would be really nice to see Tony back on TV again......

a.k.a. Bobby "The Weasel" Heenan, leader of the Heenan Family that included at one time or another: Big John Studd, Ken Patera, "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, King Kong Bundy, André the Giant, The Brain Busters (Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard), "Ravishing" Rick Rude, Harley Race, The Islanders (Haku and Tama), Hercules, The Barbarian, Mr. Perfect, Terry Taylor and The Brooklyn Brawler.

I think the Braves should get Tony Schiavone and "The Weasel" for all TV games. Mean Gene could be the field announcer. Bobby Cox can come out to argue a call while the bench coach could run out to the mound and give the John Smoltz an illegal substance. The marriage of baseball and wrestling is long overdue.

Only if Dusty Rhodes can do the pre-game show. I would really like to hear him explain the infield fly rule.

Tony Schiavone was pretty good with the Braves pre-game show on WSB several years ago.

Speaking of that, doesn't the Clear Channel Braves contract run out after 2009? The current deal was announced at the beginning of the last WSB year.

Any ideas who will get the next contract?

Yep, same one.

John Smoltz could retire and walk right in to the broadcast booth. He would be great!

Tony schvonie would be great as an announcer for the Braves. Wich station will carry the G-braves next year? i would love to hear Dusty Rhodes explain the infiled fly rule. Rick Flair could say waooo after a home run call.

WDUN will be the flagship for the G-Braves.
