Braves to 680, 100.5

The Braves have announced a five year deal with 680 the Fan and Rock 100.5. They did not announce the details of the partnership. I guess it is safe to say that Rock 100.5 won't be changing formats anytime soon.

680 also announced they will start broadcasting Florida Gator games as their Atlanta affiliate.

First speculated by Roddy Freeman on his Atlatna Airwave Action blog.
"The other possibility being tossed around by observers is a combination of 680 the Fan and Rock 100.5. The two stations are kind of cousins but owned by different entities, 680 The Fan by the Dickey family and Rock 100.5 by Cumulus Media Partners. But, I’m sure some arrangement could be worked out."

Well done Roddy. Does this mean Bobby Cox will be on the Friendship & Understanding line more often?

Only on Rafael Furcal's birthday.

Big move for the Braves, if they go to 680 the Fan. What will they do with that poor nighttime signal? Will they rely on more stations around the metro for coverage (like WIMO, WRFC, WDUN/WGGA, WCOH), or will they just take their licks in coverage?

Well, that pretty much means that 640 can be removed from the presets come October...
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the last person in Atlanta who has WGST on their car presets.

I would say that 680 has a better nighttime signal than 640, except perhaps in the NE quadrant where 680 has a big null.

They will lose some night coverage though, not because of the move from 640 to 680, but because of the move from 96.1 to 100.5.

WDUN is the flagship for the Gwinnett Braves; WDUN hasn't been broadcasting the ATL Braves this year. The ATL Braves moved to sisters WGGA (1240 The Ticket) and WMJE (Majic 102.9).

Rock 100.5 could change formats--if they went to FM sportstalk. TRG could remain on in AM drive.

Isn't 680 the ATL affiliate for Auburn? Or are they dropping the Tigers? Or are the Dickeys shuffling their collegiate affiliations among their AM signals? Don't they have Notre Dame on 1340?

1340 WCFO has Notre Dame and Georgia Southern University football. 680 just dropped Auburn and picked up Florida Gator football.

The question now is.. which group will flip to sports first? CBS Radio or Cumulus?

Yes you are right heck I have even advocated that a s possibility in the future. Although I do not see them leaving the rock format if they stay with music.

680 nighttime signal blows 640 out of the water in every way. 690 has 10k with a strong sw signal, 640 is 1k with Cuba all over it.

Now would be the perfect opportunity for CBS to flip Dave to sports-talk. They already have Falcons rights, so it's not like it would be an empty effort.

Regardless of whether or not 100.5 goes to sports talk, with Braves in hand, it's a win-win for them. (Just as long as they don't get the WKLS calls from CC.)

Hopefully this will mean the end of the atrocious pre-game show Buck Belue tries to do before home games. That show sounds better suited for AA Mississippi.

Great move. Far more appropriate choice. Glad 790 didn't get it. Now with Dave Ramsey's fans able to listen longer and get the whole show (til the power cut) WGST will truly be one of his premier stations

The chances of that happening this year are slim and none.

The Braves were on 680 for one year a couple of decades ago. There were so many complaints about the signal, they returned to WSB the following year. With nearly wall-to-wall TV coverage, satellite radio and the internet, I doubt it matters as much any more.

You mean after they just had a great book showing in the top 10 in the key demo? There is no way CBS is flipping DAVE at this point. The time to do it was after the Michelle Engel disaster.

Too bad, I was looking forward to these exciting programs:
"Celtic Chatter" with Sully.
"Red Wing Round-Up" with Margot.
"Working Out is a Sport, Right?" with Tim Orff.
"Tennis Talk" with Yvonne Monet.
"Great Jewish Athletes" with Mara Davis, every other Monday from 9:00-9:15am.
"Great Jewish Owners and Agents" with Jimmy Baron and Holly Firfer all weekend long.
