Braves Update

Bobby Cox explained his team's recent fall to last place saying "we just wanted to fit in with the rest of the lineup on WGST."

jbaxter:

Next time you see Bobby Cox, please tell him thank you for all the sports entertainment he has provided me and my family with since what, 1992?

Hey, did you think it would last forever for the Braves?

Now, here's the real challenge to Atlanta: Are we going to be fair weather fans or will we still be there to root them on even during the apparent end of the 'dynasty'? I've always admired Cubs and BoSox fans for their endless enthusiasm and have always been amazed at our own complacency even in the midst of a record-setting run.

X-14:

Atlanta tends to be a fair weather fan city. Having said that, I can remember when I lived in Gwinnett County for a while back in the 1970's when you could purchase beer by the gallon jug. We would pick up a jug or three, pack them in a cooler full of ice, and join two or three thousand of our "friends" for an evening Braves game. They did not win much back then, but we loved them just the same.

So, if this is indeed the end, true lovers of the Braves and the sport will be there when they make their return . . .

Check the attendance numbers over the last 5 years... They are average at best, and they HAVE been winning. Just think if they continue to lose.

GOOD SEATS AGAIN!

This could be really bad for the franchise if this slump is more than one year. At least during the 70's and 80's the Braves were seen on cable from Coast to Coast on TBS and heard in 39 states on WSB radio. Today they are rarely seen on TBS and there's no 50,000 watt AM signal anymore. While not many people were in the seats during the rotten years, the Braves had a fan base that was swamped by only the Cubs fans. if this turns out to be an extended period of losing, the Braves may not have many fans at all.
