Bravo Susan Boyle ...........debuts at #1 on Billboard Hot 200 LP Charts, with 708K in sales, a CD of Standards and a couple of originals. Whether she proves to be a flash in the pan or sustains, remains to be seen, the point is that coupled with the success of Michael Buble(who had the #1 CD earlier this year there is still some good music out there. The hit parade format could do very well today with the original format mixed in with decades of Boyles and Bubles, so much good music and contrary to belief, it not just 75 yr olds listening to this music......just attend a Buble Concert at mid - sixties I felt like a Dinosaur at his last show. a pure Hit Parade format would be tough to fly, but a hybrid might have a shot...........only problem is the no dares think out side the circle J. Poor washed up Rod Stewart, he had to put up with three monster hit Cd's of standards. You would think the genius of Clive Davis would know better, submitting Rod to all that misery. Poor Herb Alpert who built an Empire out of quasi-big band latin flavored recordings. There have been countless Boyles and Bubles every decade, names like Connick and so forth. Good music is Good Music and will never die, no matter how many imcompetents try to kill it. Why does Satellite have a Sinatra Channel, a Big band Channel, but,oh thats right, those listeners are dead or soon to be. Back in the early nineties there was a Nouveau Big Band break out with over 100 different quality artists releasing CD's that programmers didn't know what to do with, despite that horror they are still hanging in there today by a thread, these great new bands are more fodder for this hybrid station. All I want for Christmas is Dino, Frankie, Harry , Michael, Rod, Legend, Royal Crown Revue, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Red and the Red Hots, Big Six, Louie Prima.....
