The NY Times and Variety note that negotiations with AMC and Sony Pictures Television (the production house for "Breaking Bad") wasn't as smooth as one would imagine, and the show was close to becoming a Netflix-exclusive.
Also, "Better Call Saul" (as pitched) is a *prequel* and not a spinoff of events after "Breaking Bad", all messing with fan theories of how Walter White & company potentially finish the show.
