BREAKING: KZZO PD JEFF Z OUT

WOAH, WOAH, WOAH!

I'm not defending the Zone or the suits that run it. Nor am I defending Corporate Radio in general. It's pretty obvious these days that poor choice making abilities are capable from the Intern to the CEO.

Here is what I'm saying. Everyone seems to have an opinon about why a station has under performed or how crappy a certain jock is. And if THEY were running things, the station would see only a drastic change in ratings because somehow they've been over looked their entire career for such opportunities.

Jay, radio has forever changed and it will NEVER go back to they way things were. The digital forum will be our new battleground.

TSL, I'm sure you're overflowing with creativity after years of corporate supression, so please elaborate what your plan of action would be if you were in charge?

Here's the BOTTOM LINE: Anyone can point out the OBVIOUS PROBLEMS, but only few can provide a viable solution. Can YOU?

You were so defensive, I do believe I was correct in guessing that you work there, and are probably one of the jocks that needs to get a new job. I would fire EVERYONE on the air there, except for Monica. I think that was pretty clear in my earlier post.

And I also was pretty clear in what I'd do with the music. Maybe you need to adjust your crash helmet, so the words can sink in.

The station I work for runs smoothly and gets high ratings because the jocks and music are focused.

What a wasted topic.
The Zone actually went out and got a big name winning PD...did it help? NO They will continue to try to take that station in 4 directions at once and hope they can bill better then the market. By cutting the PD, and now all the morning show talent (I use the word "talent" lightly), they have made the station probably the lowest costing station to run station in the cluster.
Yesterday I heard Sara McLaughlin into the new Pink...pick a format people or just blow it up and go Movin', it works in SF! Ohh yea, but if you were going to do that then you should of kept the PD because didn't he come from the format that created the Movin world? And wasn't he part of a number one station in NY? N Y !
A mess to say the least!

Movin' is working SF?

Just heard from a reliable source that the powers that be at the Zone plan on firing Keith Brooks. Also heard that a few part timers are going to be let go too. And Freddie Bueno formerly of KNCI is doing mornings as of this week.

That's a lot of PD's! Jim Matthews was "acting" PD prior to the Oda administration. Isn't Oda selling insurance in Tempe, now? Aloha!

Frankly, I thought The Zone was best under the direction of Carmy Ferreri and Dave Shakes. There was an undercurrent of cool. In fact, KWOD had that back then too.

Yes there are lots including me. But you don't see them calling me do you?

I think Todd Violette was left off the PD list. He was at the Zone for a couple years. He's now in Socal. He seemed like a good choice...they never gave it to him. Not sure why. Seemed like a good fit.

it's been said on this board over and over,

the real fault of the zone's failure to sh!t or get off the pot lies with corporate.

according to several people on this board, and at cbs, they wouldn't allow any of the pds, and most recently Jeff Z do anything with the format.

with jack getting traded, i wonder if cheap channel will retain the jack format. if they do not, i wonder if cbs brass would allow KZZO to go JACK.

effective promotion can be done under a small budget, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. (jack-fm is a great example) it's a shame that they just don't have a great product to promote there.

The only ways i can see the zone going (in terms of format) is either JACK, CHR, or staying the same.

Whoever suggested Movin, seriously, read the trades. That format is dead.
