BREAKING: MY 102.5 FLIPS

interesting. good signals in asheville are limited. 102.5 93.7 and 92.5 are the only signals licensed to greenville that can be heard in asheville.
102.5 (actually licensed to Hendersonville) will lose some of their solid WNC coverage if they move to the 92.5 tower. I would think upstate coverage is what they are concerned about since that is the market they are targeting
I noticed weakness in the 102.5 signal just above Laurens co. the other day. That move would help with that issue.

Doesn't 93.3 put decent coverage in to Asheville? I know 98.9 doesn't, even though it seems like they would
I don't really hear WMYI in my motel room in the mountains. WESC has an okay signal and WTPT is better. Only WMUU comes in consistently of the upstate stations. WROQ and WFBC are iffy.

Oh, I was going to add that some more reaction from 98.9 is starting to show. They are mixing artists like Hinder, The Romantics, Kings Of Leon, Andy Grammer, The Outfield, Cee Lo Green, The Tubes, etc. in to their playlist. They cut way back on the 1970s music recently also. They appear to be going for an aggressive approach to the AC format....likely in effort to not sound sleepy compared to 102.5.
Meanwhile, soft music is non-existent unless you want classical during the day and sacred at night--when there's not preaching.

It doesn't fit the format they are trying to program. WWFS/Fresh 102.7 in NYC is what they are trying to do. I guess those listeners can go to Magic.

Guys (and Gals) they are doing what at least one AC in a market is doing today and thats trying to relate to an ever changing radio listener. The days of stations being true to a format are gone, if Brown Eyed Girl will fit an at work listener and Katy Perry fits a 22 year old chick driving home from work so be it. With IPods, IPhones, IPads, Internet Radio stations out the rear, radio stations will do whatever it takes to grab any ear.

I totally agree with Carolinakahuna! The target is a wide, anything that sits down to pee, 18-54. Brown Eyed Girl can, and does appeal to the the full sweep. It's songs that are inside "The Fence". To me, for now(?), MY 102 is right on track. R & R quoted me years ago, when I said: "The human ear can't register chart position, it can only register appeal.". That held true then, and it is slowly being realized today. Whoever's picking the playlist at MY is pretty smart, but still missing on a few artists; Grace Potter for one. They are going to do well, but it will all be in vain, if they go all Christmas on 11/15. That will derail all the momentum of the present effort.

They haven't added anything new since it started. Magic has even added new AC songs in the recent weeks and they lean so much older. The "fresh" sound is starting to sound a little stale.

I don't think you can call any format adjustment a success (or failure) until there have been a few full books.

Thanks for this PMGRNVL on what is clearly the best first post ever...

........kudos to you for what is absolutely the best-programmed, best-sounding station in the Upstate -- Carolina Classic 103.3 WOLT. It's the only station I really spend any time with. For classic hits, I think you do a great job. The mix and song selection is very solid. Almost every night when I ride home I hear something I haven't heard in years -- a really good song, too, not some lame, lukewarm, overplayed title. The audio quality is noticeably superior to other stations as well. The EQ on Rock 101, as one example, is just awful. Yes, a few of us still do notice. If only the classic hits played a bit more... :)
Thanks for noticing! We're working with Dorman and Furman on major improvements on their broadcasts as well. Isn't it crazy that you have to watch TV to get great audio for a game/sporting event? Meanwhile on radio it seems, more often than not, it's some craptacular mono junkfest. The audio is all you have - let's bring it to life!

I have a question, why aren't trends available for public viewing (I know it's just 12+ but it's still interesting to look at the bragging numbers) for Greenville Spartanburg? I know they are for Columbia and Charleston. This market's even bigger. I think they were on R-I one time but that was all. Would be interesting to see what kind of trend 102.5 got since its format adjustment.

gsp being a subscriber only market is why the trends are not posted. the first trend only included one week of the new format

I thought Magic wasn't doing it either.

What needs to happen is for WHLC to get a simulcast partner. I vote for WOLT.

arbitron based on how i hear stations in my motel room my favorite post.
It's a clue as to how many people are going to be able to pick up those signals. Arbitron doesn't cover those areas anyway, though.

Well, hand me the Black hat...it's funny how it seems to always fit my head, and up on my soapbox I go. OK,...fine it's a couple Coke crates, not a soapbox, but spout I shall: So, rumors abound(& gag) that MY is indeed going to sacrifice their Fall book to Andy Williams & his closet of Red Sweaters...ALL CHRISTMAS! OK,...MAGIC, here's your chance to shine.
MY is purposely going to derail all of their momentum, created by the format flippage. The Master Move here would be to not reflect their floundering. According to another poster, more learn-id than I, you are out of the Fall book on 12/8. Just play the right seasonal songs, without the full monte.
As for Deliliah & Tesh, they both need to be voted off the island. Any decent 7p-Mid Live announcer can garner more than they have in three books.
As a zoo keeper once said: "Sometimes ya just gotta see what the monkey will do!".

I am trying to figure out exactly what 102.5 is trying to be. They seem to want to be a conservative Hot AC/fresh AC, which Delilah and all-Christmas do not fit on. Finger Eleven, The Killers, Def Leppard, All-American Rejects, Delilah, and Andy Williams do not belong on the same station at all!! I am starting to lower my expectations for their performance.

Delilah on Magic? Nobody is picking her show up except for 92.1 in Columbia who shows no sense. A lot are dropping her. If they did ever drop her, I don't expect for her to pop up on Magic. Automation would be better. Magic will go all-Christmas and they will definitely win.

I am all for success, but... since we haven't had much change in GSP for quite some time now, I kinda want more from 102.5, this new sound doesn't sound so new anymore, in my opinion. Pink and Lady GaGa's same 2-3 songs all day mixed with what they already played time to time seems to be a waste. Can it just actually flip now? Top 40? GenX? Keep the VO guy but get some new jingles, male jingles, spruce up logo and drop the whole "My" thing altogether... Please!!!

Well,...(southern prefix)...I said well,...let's not fling-out too many gold stars of credit. MY made one bold, positive move, and then went back into park. No second forward stride has been made. Years ago, there was an Awww-ful format named "Hot Hits". Every hour and 45 the top 13 or so hits would repeat. MY is not as bad as that rotation, but they are going to drive those hits with a great deal of zest! However, all of it..."ALL OF IT"...will be in vain, if they go all Christmas on 11/15. That's not screwing the pooch...that's a month- long orgy at a two-story humane society!
