BREAKING NEWS!!! Brad Delp Has Died!!!!!

>>and it went VERY badly for a number of reasons.

Ooh...I think I stopped in once, out of curiosity. Speaking of record stores we know and remember Rockit,
and there's the Record Exchange still going on Washington St in Salem (had been at 120 Lafayette for
years)...and anybody remember Dave Pierce's Records Wanted on Central Ave. in Lynn? It was near
Al DiVirgilio's Mr D's School of Driving and Robin Hood Travel...Dave had his own label, Star Rhythm Records
(Bay State Rock, the Dawgs)

Records Wanted is still open, far as I know...

TravisWMLN,
>>>If you knew infromation from a great reliable source, would it be ethical to go on the air and say how he passed away (i.e. heart attack, overdose etc.) or would you wait and let the papers take care of it? (out of respect to the family)

Brad will be sorely missed. This is one of the worst losses to Boston music in recent memory.<<<

I don't think a station should wait until all the details of an artist passing is announced for them to offer a tribute.

Back in 1989 at the passing of Del Shannon, oldies WCBS-FM in New York went right into playing his music when it was announced he had passed.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

mention he's passed away and play the music. You don't need details to start the tribute.

I don't live anywhere near Boston (I'm in Ohio). "More Than A Feeling" came out my junior year in college and was the signature tune of my years in rock radio. It was always a "turn it up" song and still is for me today. Sad, sad, sad news. I remember the day I first heard it on campus on my transistor radio between classes on my favorite AM radio station. I went to my campus station to request it. Next quarter I was on the air playing it. A true, true, true loss in the music world.

The word "unique" is overused. But it fits Boston. I was living in Worcester when their first album came out..it's still one of my favorites. Really sad news..

Very sad to hear this news. I've always enjoyed the music of Boston. And I have all their albums.
Each one has fond memories that I will cherish forever.

I went back and put on some of Boston's music today. Not on the air, not for work, but to just re-ingest the sheer brilliance of that band's first two CDs. I never really liked anything beyond Third Stage, and only half-liked that CD.

They were pretty much perfect. Heavy enough for rockers. Light enough for casuals. And most importantly...unique.

Nobody before, or since has ever sounded like Boston. Sure, Kansas (insert ironic connection here) tried to cop Scholz' guitar sound on Leftoverture, but it just felt like they were copying. Boston created something unique. Not unlike the Police. Brad was a lot like Paul Rodgers in that he had beautiful tonal control. Powerful and smooth. When he "screamed" it never felt like he was straining. He was a true vocalist.

"Hitch A Ride" moves me the most of all Boston's music. I can't say why...I just think there's no band today who fits the slot Boston occupied.

..and music is worse for it.

Funny how you don't truly appreciate something until it's taken away.

...and yeah. You do feel a little like a piece of your home is gone forever. Boston (the city) has really provided some unique musical contributions. Some of the greatest bands of their styles. Makes one proud to be from there.

The family released a statement this morning saying the funeral will be private, with a public memorial at a future date.

www.muzzdrums.com is back up and has some great pictures of Brad, and a guestbook if you'd like to say a few words.

gotta give Muzz and the rest of the guys credit for keeping with that old saying " the show must go on".... Beatlejuice played last night at Johnny D's.

The world is now going to realize how essential Brad Delp's voice is to the sound of BOSTON. That BOSTON is more than the music of Tom Scholz.

The name should be retired. Tom Scholz should go on tour under his own name from this point forward.

CORRECTION: Velvet Elvis, which is most of the guys from Beatlejuice played at Johnny D's last night.

For those guys to hit the stage last night was an act of pure class!

If I remember correctly, Boston's 4th CD, "Walk On" did not include Delp but sound a like Fran Cosmo. I believe it sold very poorly.

I hear rumblings of a deliberate end to Brad's life.

If this is true..it makes an already sad story that much worse.

I hope the "rumblings" are not true....

Remembering Boston's debut album in 1976, when I was a 7th grader, brings back fond memories. Through the years, I've probably gone through 4 pressings of the vinyl, 3 or 4 cassettes and it was the 3rd CD I purchased (behind Dark Side of the Moon and Synchronicity).

While every track on the debut release is a staple on rock stations, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for "A Man I'll Never Be" from "Don't Look Back". Classic stuff. It's too bad that we have to say all these nice things posthumously.

I have heard conflicting stories, but it doesn't really make a difference at this point from where I sit.

http://www.barrygoudreau.com/ has "What You Leave Behind" from the CD "Delp & Goudreau" on the front page for your listening enjoyment. If you have only heard Brad perform with Boston, or Beatlejuice give it a listen.

Just hit the play button next to the speaker icon under where it says Barry Goudreau

Nice of the R&R HOF to include him in their opening tribute to those who left us in the past year.

I can 99% confirm that brad took his own life (from a source closely related to the fiancee)...the details will come out shortly....i knew on friday that he had which is why i asked my original question about whether or not it was ethical to break that sort of news....still hard to believe such a good singer is now gone, and driving past moseley's on the charles for the past week has made my commute on my way to the jamaica way just a little bit sadder
