BREAKING NEWS!!! Brad Delp Has Died!!!!!

Just saw that myself--not only sad to lose his talent but he was about to marry later this year and you'd
think all was well with him, but something made him take his own life. (Sadly, Bill Chinnock, a member of the E Street band, and comedian Richard Jeni also committed suicide this past week. Jeni had suffered from depression while
the E Street band member had been suffering from Lyme disease (I looked it up and found then when not
caught early, Lyme disease is "disabling and difficult to treat")...

just terrible. Remember that Ben Orr died from pancreatic cancer which is a horrible fate. Whatever Brad faced hopefully he is at peace.

It's gotta be horrible, seeing no other way out like that. His survivors must be just devastated, no matter what he wrote in those letters he supposedly left for them.

Question for you -

Before last week, can you recall the last time you heard Boston on radio, played it on your own system, heard or thought of Brad Delp in particular?

I have friends who love Beatlejuice who invite me to see them whenever they play Johnnie D's in Somerville. So, yeah. But what was a little odd for me is he carried a guitar, but never actually played it.

I hear Boston all the time on ZLX, WROR and 106.3 out of Nashua.

=============================================================================

Brad was a star in Massachusetts. He should've been as famous all around the world as he was here, but it was his activity in Beatle Juice (and to a degree RTZ where he had a hit single outside of Boston) that got his name out to the public. I still can't believe he's gone. Boston's album covers were intentionally generic,
it was Tom Scholz's project, much like a Phil Spector record was his device (though he did put photos of singers on his recordings...even if it is Darlene Love singing on The Crystal's "He's A Rebel").

One would think "More Than A Feeling" is played frequently on most classic rock stations. It was just rare to hear a jock say "Brad Delp and the band BOSTON" unless Beatle Juice was in town. But the Beatles cover band was a great way for Brad to meet so many of his loyal fans - and he was always generous with autographs and his time. The loss to Boston rock & roll is huge...and we've already had a tough 2006.

If you knew infromation from a great reliable source, would it be ethical to go on the air and say how he passed away (i.e. heart attack, overdose etc.) or would you wait and let the papers take care of it? (out of respect to the family)

Brad will be sorely missed. This is one of the worst losses to Boston music in recent memory.

I had a feeling that you were going in the kind of direction this story evolved to, with that post....

Herald article:

http://thetrack.bostonherald.com/moreTrack/view.bg?articleid=188564

"Friends said it was Delp’s constant need to help and please people that may have driven him to despair. He was literally the man in the middle of the bitter break-up of Boston - pulled from both sides by divided loyalties.
Delp tried to please both sides by continuing to contribute his vocals to Scholz’ Boston projects while also remaining close to his former bandmates. The situation was complicated by the fact that Delp’s ex-wife, Micki, is the sister of Goudreau’s wife, Connie."

well here is another post that is going to be sent to the take it outside board

To Mickey37

I heard Boston on the radio constantly, I listened to it often.

And if you knew Brad Delp, you would know that he was not someone who sought to be in the limelight.

Hundreds and sometimes thousands of people went to see BeatleJuice every week. Tickets to the shows were in short supply. I would have to get reservations for the club shows more than a month in advance to get tables. I got the last 2 reserved tables for the show that was supposed to be in Melrose on 4/20. I got those tickets 2 weeks ago. Shows at the Regent theater sold out quickly.. I neever went to a Juice show with less than 10 people with me, sometimes as many as 20. I wasn't a fan of Brad because of his work in the band Boston, I was a fan because of his work in BeatleJuice.

Go read the message board over at Muzzdrums.com read what his fans had to say about him. There has not been ONE WORD of bad said about the man. Nobody has a bad thing to say about him.

People knew the that Brad died by his own hand early on. I heard it friday before any Boston station even reported his death. Out of respect for the person he was everyone kept thier mouths shut. If any other big name musician had died that way it would have been all over the news.

The band Boston made Brad Delp famous, but he was still the most humble, nicest person I have ever met.
It never went to his head.

I'd love to know the true story of why Brad isn't on Boston's fourth album, "Walk On." The first RTZ album Brad did with Barry Goudreau is far superior to anything Boston has done since "Third Stage." Reading this, I wish Brad had told Tom to go piss up a rope and RTZ had continued on instead of Boston.

very well put, Neggy.

I was up all last night reading the obits; Brad's passing has had an effect on everyone who loved his music and on everyone who knew him personally. I am very upset. He was a very sweet man.

If Brad had told Tom to go "piss up a rope" we wouldn't be having this discussion if Micki Delp's interview with the Herald is true.

The reason Brad didn't sing on the 4th album is simple ..TOM SCHOLTZ.

Tom is a bleep

If "We just lost the nicest guy in Rock and roll" described Brad, then the biggest bleep in rock & roll, and every other genre of music is Tom Scholtz.

I read an interesting interview with Fran recently where he said that everyone in the band was replacable, except for Tom as far as Tom was concerned.

Any takers that Scholz tries to form yet another incarnation of Boston? I could even see him stooping to trying to bring back Barry and Sib. If he does, I hope they tell him to take a hike.

I think turning this thread into a "lynch Tom Scholz" discussion does an extreme dishonor to the memory of Brad Delp.

That topic is relevant, but might be better placed in a thread that might not be read by someone close to Brad who'd find it in extremely poor taste.

Just my opinion. I may be wrong. I just feel that an angry tone to this is bad form.
