CLEAR CHANNEL has filed to swap AC KHMX (MIX 96.5) and Spanish Hits KLOL (MEGA 101)/HOUSTON to CBS RADIO for Adult Hits WQSR (102.7 JACK FM)/BALTIMORE, Top 40 KBKS (106.1 KISS FM)/TACOMA-SEATTLE, Top 40/Rhythm KXJM (JAMMIN' 107.5) and Classic Hits KLTH (K-HITS 106.7)/PORTLAND, and Adult Hits KQJK (93.7 JACK FM)/SACRAMENTO.

The deal includes an LMA before closing.

This according to All Access.

So now C.C. cluster grows in Sacramento (pending FCC approval),
while CBS is still trying to sell/trade/barter/dump portions of its
Sacto cluster...interesting...

I wonder when the brightly-lit Jack-FM Xmas lights on Madison Ave
will go dark at night?

I wonder if CC will maintain the JACK format or not? And how will this affect the New CC Radio Station planned for 93.1?

Could Bonneville be in the hunt for Sacramento and Baltimore (whats left of CBS in those two markets)?

"I wonder if CC will maintain the JACK format or not? And how will this affect the New CC Radio Station planned for 93.1?"

Why wouldn't they keep Jack? It makes money (top 10 in the market) and operational costs are minimal --the standard model in all business, not just radio. The other station, regardless of format, will follow that same business model: Auto-pilot, as in no staffing, no outside hires (translation: voice tracking). The industry doesn't spend money when times are good. Don't expect any different in a recession, especially when you've got a company now being run by bankers.

They can keep the ADULT HITS format, but couldn't CC just drop the JACK name? Change it to BOB or MAX or FRANK or FRED? Isn't JACK a licensed name? Didn't CBS pay for the rights? Wouldn't CC be required to continue to pay? Wouldn't it be cheaper to keep the format but change the name? Besides, as long as they play the same music, I don't give a F**K if it is called JACK, BOB or even FRED? Heck if they want to call it STAN, I would listen to it.

Here's a thought...

What if CBS sold the frequency but not the format? They could keep Jack and put it on 100.5. After all, isn't Jack the only one that's making any money right now?

Actually I think of the CBS radio properties, Isn't KSFM-102.5 and KNCI-105.1 the most profitable of its FM's if not ALL of their radio stations? I would think KSFM and KNCI are more profitable than JACK-FM?

Here's another thought? After CC acquires 93.7 JACK-FM, Shuffle things around. KGBY moves from 92.5 to 93.7 to become MY 93.7. KQJK moves to the new 93.1 frequency and becomes 93.1 JACK-FM and that leaves 92.5 to become the new KFBK NEWS/TALK 92.5 (simulcasting 1530 of course.).

The Most Profitable Station On 93.7?

I have been doing some thinking about the 93.7 frequency, Not only KQJK-JACK FM, but I believe KRXQ-93 ROCK was the other profitable station on that frequency? All the other stations between it from KRAK to KHWD, weren't that profitable whether it was GOLD COUNTRY 93.7 or ARROW 93.7 or KXOA THE TALK THAT ROCKS or even HOWARD 93.7. But I think JACK has the edge in terms of being a Low Cost Radio Station but KRXQ had the edge on being the the highest Arbitron rated station on 93.7.

CC has never had any JACK stations and very few Variety Hits stations. I'll guess they will change formats or at the very least re-launch it as a non-JACK Variety Hits.

I think the predominant point of this is that they now own that end of the dial with 92.5, 93.1, and now 93.7.

Being that close to the non-comm FMs, is this phenomenon a good thing?
Or does it matter anymore, what with the predominantly-available digital-tuners?

Two of the Non-coms (KXPR and KXJZ) as well listened to (high numbers although not published, but will be with the PPM rolls out in the market next year) and yes as you said, most listeners are listening on digital tuners.
