Clear Channel has reportedly brought its Paul Bunyan Tour to Sacramento's KGBY (Y92.5). Word began to filter out late Wednesday that the stations' AC format is to be jettisoned, along with the entire airstaff, right after the Christmas holiday (the station is airing 24-hour holiday music through 12/25). A new website, mentioned in an earlier post, points to KGBY joining its CC sister KBIG in Los Angeles in airing the "My" format, possibly as early as Tuesday (12.25)
Morning sidekick Lori Sacco, midday talent Heather Lee, and -- according to at least two sources -- morning legend Paul Robins are all reportedly out.
Word of the impending changes set off a modest wave of celebration at CBS Radio's KYMX, which has been winning not just the adult contemporary ratings race but, in two of the last three ratings periods, the entire ratings race in adults 25-54 years of age. Across the hallway, PD Jeff Z and a revamped morning show have helped KZZO climb back into the Top 10 in adult listeners over the last few months.
The new KGBY format is expected to run jock-less, at least for now. There was no word on additional changes in programming, promotions or administration. Clear Channel also operates heritage news/talk KFBK; talk KSTE; and Rhythmic Oldies KHYL (V-101.1).
