BREAKING NEWS COVERAGE

A Dekalb County officer shot and an intense manhunt going on now and 11 ALIVE is no where to be found. CBS Atlanta broke the news around 4:40pm during their 4pm newscast. At 5:00pm, FOX 5 toks this ne hands down. Nonstop coverage wall to wall for about 45minutes. Channel 2 mentioned it, but didn't stay on it like FOX 5. (just my 2 cents)

are u kidding? 3 men on the loose, an officer shot and add traffic backup for those that couldn't get home? "welcome to atlanta"

I agree with Bengalsfan. There was TOO MUCH coverage. They interviewed everybody but the dogs on the street. Then to the backdoor of Grady.........the helecopter again, again, again.......back to Grady.......back to the roadblock.

You'da thought Bin Laden had been spotted.

What about the people in the rest of the metro that are not effected by this? Going wall to wall with something like this is a major tune out factor. It's just not that important. 99% of the crap they call "breaking news", isn't.

Since Fox 5 has contracts to share their helicopter with some of the other stations, I would say that I would stay on the story too. It would be a bit redundant to use the helicopter for a story and not report it. Anyways, not everyone watches the news at the same time due to differential schedules. All the stations could do better, but the economy has caused some major cuts.
If someone wants to complain about anything on Fox 5, complain about the clothing of too short skirts and the chick can't cross her legs properly to wear them. How about the cleavage too much, the breast are bubbled up so high that she has to take two deep breathes to get one sentence out. UGH!!! It isn't a dating show, it is the news!

In my recently completed four years in metro ATL, channel 2 so cheapened the phrase "breaking news" as to make it worthless. John and Monica would breathlessly announce "We have breaking news", the sounder and intro would play and it would be chopper 2 over a two car insurance seminar (thanks Mad Man) on 75. No injuries..If you must do it, call it a traffic update but not "breaking news".

They are all doing that now Rick. Used to be, you hear the phrase 'breaking news' and you'd stop what you are doing to listen. But now, like you said, breaking news not only is something stupid happening right now, it's something stupid that happened a few days ago!
