Breaking News... GO CC Part Time

The word is that Joel has told airstaff to start looking for additional jobs. Many of them will soon be going part-time. This is a terrible blow for radio pros. Could this even include the Ron and Becky show? Can any other source at Plum Street jump in and explain?

All those views of this topic and not one person saying that it's not true, is a really bad sign.
I wonder if this is happening in other Clear Channel markets and is part of the "new" Clear Channel once they go private?

Parts Is Parts

Rumor has it that T-bone may have to start working at his job full-time...

Clear Channel's stock would be in the same free-fall as everybody else's if the buy-out at $36 wasn't imminent. Once the deal is done, the private company will have to deal with revaluating their properties to reflect the real value under today's conditions. That won't be pretty, and neither will the cost-cutting that follows.

BTW, we haven't heard from the self-proclaimed "Genius" in a LONG time. How are things going for you now, Bunky?

I was going to comment earlier but I'm not sure what this actually means. Are the air-talent going to be paid hourly? Is that what is being implied? Or is this something being done to reduce benefits?

I think there is a law that if you are a salaried employee not eligible for overtime that there is a minimum salary involved.

I don't know, I need more information.........

You are correct. I don't remember the original amount, but I remember when that law went into effect a few years ago. I knew some folks at one particular station who were salaried, and then had to start doing timesheets, and overtime was strictly forbidden because the company hadn't budgeted for any OT. (This is not CC or even in Syracuse, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened there too.)

As for the sale... look at what happened to Clear Channel's television properties about a month ago. New owners came in, and there were many layoffs or buyouts all over the place. Even though the new owners at radio are different than TV... they'll still probably do the same thing. Demoting people to part-time is bad, but if this is true, at least they're getting advance notice and it's better than just firing them outright. Being part-time does allow the company to avoid benefits, but it will also drive people to the exits, and Delmonico will have a heck of a time trying to replace those departures.

I find this entire thing pretty hard to believe though. There are few people at CC who "just" do an air shift. Most of the on-air talent spend the "other half" of their workday as directors of programming, music, or promotion. I have a feeling Joel may have said something exaggeratory, which was taken too seriously by someone too gullible... or if this is true, it will only affect a handful of people who, again, would be lucky to still have part-time, since they probably could just as easily be replaced by out-of-town voicetrackers or syndicated content.

If any of this is true, it's a sad commentary on the business of radio and another disappointing chapter in broadcasting. What's particularly troubling, will Citadel and Galaxy play follow-the-leader?

600 views later not one person has said,"NOT TRUE".
This is probably all tied to the sale of Clear Channel which is set for July 30.What other changes may be in store under the new owners?

They can't even afford a decent radio station banner for live remotes!! CC - major communications company and they can't purchase a logo banner! Shameful. Why not put management out there at appearances and let them see how embarassing it is to stand there and hawk prizes!

Instead of trading for air conditioning, or a new kitchen, get trade from a sign company! You stupid jerks! Let's all take a class "How to ruin radio 101"
