BREAKING NEWS: "Howard" Gets "Jack"-ed

According to well placed souces -- er, sources -- KHWD "Howard 93.7" will flip to "Jack" at the conclusion of this morning's Howard Stern show, approximately 10:30.

No early word on whether Stern's show will continue or of any staff changes.

Which begs the question: which of the "experts" on this board won the bet?

Anyone get the "Announcement" from Stern's show this morning concerning the format and staff changes? I would be interested in listening to it as an MP3. Thanks.

JACK-FM Launches in Sacto at 10:30AM. First song Jimmy Eat World, The Middle. Then the Stones Jumpin' Jack Flash... Cute!

Clever intro from Cogan. Funny even.

Happy to have Jack in ol'Sac.
______________

Jack is on the air! But will he only last till the end of the year and then
become another FreeFM????

According to Infinity's website, Sacramento is not a market that will have a "Free" station. The Jack format is a permanent change, with music to expand to morning drive in January.

I hope not. I like Jack! Let's see this format light-up 93.7!! KXOA-HotTalk was before my time here in Sacto. How did it do with their stable of hosts? Did it rate well??

A question for "Timmy" and others on this board. What do you all like so much about the "Jack, Fred, Bob" format? If it were a good AAA format, I personally, would LOVE it, but who wants to hear a bunch of #1's from the past for decades and a bunch overly-familiar, researched to death, songs??? Not me!

I'm not criticizing anyone's tastes, just curious how many of you out there REALLY enjoy this kind of format. Either way, all these changes sure make the market interesting. My 2 cents.

- Cam.

Cam,

I really like Jack because I like the music and I feel like it is a very fresh and different approach to radio. There are plenty of soul-less automated to death stations, but Jack has presentation value that I find funny and entertaining. I don't know how long it will last but this iteration here in Sacto has come quite late in the game after some Jacks have been on-air for months and even up to a year or more. I find this says that Infinity still has faith in the product and think it will do well. Bob failed here due to horrible signal and poor management/ownership. I'm happy Jack came here and will personally be a fan. I will look for the TV ads and the bill/busboards. Good luck, Jack!

Did your idiot cousin Bob even make it through a book? Just curious...
______________

"Jack" sounds more Rock-leaning than his dead cousin "Bob". As a matter of fact "Jack" sounds a lot like his old uncle "Arrow." But Jack is a bit wider and updated musically than his Uncle Arrow.

I'll keep it as a preset on the car radio. It's not outstanding, but it is listenable as any other local commercial Rock oriented station locally.

He was lucky to make it through a pamphlet!

I agree with the "Arrow" comparison, but with a caveat: When Infinity (then CBS Radio) re-launched the Arrow with Arrow 93.7 in January 1999, they soon discovered that they had to operate under a non-compete clause as part of the big frequency swap with Entercom (93.7-93 Rock for 98.5-KRAK). Since they couldn't recreate the "All Rock and Roll Oldies" TRUE Arrow format, they had to come up with a "Classic Hits" format, under the slogan: "Timeless Hits For An Ageless Generation". You could hear Billy Joel, The Police, Earth Wind & Fire, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Squier and the Miracles in a typical day. After a year, the non-compete lifted, and Arrow 93.7 could go after the Eagle with a true Classic Rock format. To me, Jack-FM sounds like the 1999 version of Arrow 93.7.
