BREAKING NEWS: MIKE REMY OUT AT KHTK

Longtime KHTK (Sports 1140) Program Director Mike Remy has reportedly been fired by CBS Radio. More as it develops.

Update: Remy, who had been with the station since the 70s (as KRAK Country 1140), was laid off as part of cost-cutting measures across CBS Radio. Other layoffs are expected through the day across the struggling radio group, both in Sacramento and nationwide.

Hey, let's be sensitive to people losing their jobs. Fired and laid off are two VERY different terms. I'm not bashing jvparent, in fact, I appreciate the breaking news, but a "man" has lost his job. Other industry people look here and will see that he was fired and then where is he? Out looking for something other than radio... if he's smart. Oh...
well...
Good Luck Mike!

Apologies, SFSAC, for the inaccuracy. You are correct.

Further update: four persons were laid off in total today at CBS. They include a webmaster, a sales support person, and one person in sales.

It is reported that Jeff McMurray, presently PD at sister KQJK (Jack-FM) will take over day-to-day operations at KHTK, effective immediately. McMurray will reportedly retain his Jack duties.

Please tell me that L.G. was not the webmaster affected by this...

Latest reports indicate -- and I read your dismay -- that L.G., with over a decade of service, has left the building.

Further news is that layoffs have happened today in Los Angeles, Charlotte, and a few other markets.

Tom Chiusano (WXRK's former GM) saw this coming from a mile away.

The question is... How???

I am stunned! Remy has been there for more than 25 years, their Webmaster Leon nearly as long. Two very good radio people out the door. It's a crying shame.

For being there that long, it IS a shame! Here in Phoenix, we just lost KOOL 94.5 morning show host, Bill Gardner, who does a terrific job. Never heard anyone better! Wonderful personality... best way to start the morning...

Somebody wake me up from this nightmare...

Wake up to iPod, Satellite Radio, the Internet...and every other way people can get their music, news, sport and talk shows BESIDES terrestrial radio. Not saying the medium is dead -- hell, it better not be -- but until Corporate Broadcasting System and the other behemoths figure how to really use new technology to their advantage...

That, and a very soft ad market...are hurting the business of radio.

I'm with bbutler: Remy's a good man, and I hope he's not out of the biz for long...

I guess the thought never occured to the idiots at the top that quite possibly the reason they keep going down and down and down and down is because they keep cutting good staff and cutting good staff and running good staff off. Their product keeps getting worse and worse so sales get worse so they cut and cut and cut.

Personally I hope they go bankrupt soon. Maybe someone with a clue can have a fighting chance at it while respecting the help that built up the place.

Damn you Corporate Broadcasting System!

But hey, in LA Charlie Tuna just landed a part time, non-benefit paying position at KRTH. That's the way to do it corporate magnets, get 'em cheap and hold 'em over a barrel. Keep the overhead down.

Shame on you, CBS!

CBS radio has no problem throwing emplyees out the door. They do have a problem with being honest. They will tell everyone but the person being let go that they are out the door. They like to let dedicated employees suffer while the ax is preparing to fall. The first thing I did was get my 401K out of CBS. I dont think they know what the hell they are doing. If I was a CBS employess, I would be very nervous that the sneaks in the suits are not finished house cleaning. The best part is that these weasly suits could be next !!! Most of them are just glorified sales people who lucked out. Too bad most of them have the people skills equal to reptiles.

hey that stinks to hear the news about Mike Remy. Mike Remy is a good guy. He always had time to listen to the callers and listeners. I hope the news is wrong and Mike Remy gets to come back. it sucks because Mike Remy is supportive and cares about the radio talent and know what the fans and callers like and like I said he alway had time to listen to a fan or caller of the station to hear a suggestion or whateve the case was. I wish all the best to Mike Remy thank you and God bless from your friend Phillip from Galt

I'd take Mike Remy over Jeff McMurray any day. Too bad Remy, who actually has done well at KHTK, couldn't have stayed and became PD at the Jack-box computer station too.

Word is Remy got 12 months severance, for over 25 years service....
No wonder no one is getting into this buisiness other than sales
and management.

Entercom ought to hire Mike Remy for KCTC-ESPN 1320?

Jeff McMurray Question?

By chance, Is this the same Jeff McMurray who was pd at Classic Rock KSEG 96.9 The Eagle and did mornings with Mark Davis before being canned and replaced by the syndicated MARK AND BRIAN show back in 1997?
