Breaking News:WEHM's NEW DUO...2 Signals

Effective @ 10 PM 4/18/06...the TOH Legal boasts the new 96.9 East End simulcast of WHBE as Progressive Radio...no more Bloomberg...and 96.9 is now lit up in stereo!!! It was announced just before 9PM, to "tune in tommorrow for the morning show on both 92.9 or 96.9", but they are up and running the stereo simulcast now! This ought to really help improve their showing in the new Hamptons-Riverhead book...not that they aren't already an almost guaranteed top 3 station as it has pretty much been since the book arrived. Goes to show...that regardless of what your take is on the recent LI Press article about local radio...and it's heated debate herein..."originality rates"...local or otherwise... Unless of course your neighborhood's main street is called Madison Avenue!
PS...TOH Legal an hour later (11PM) was "WEHM Southampton...WEHM EastHampton". So as it seems...the WHBE calls are also gone from the Long Island dial as well as "The Honorable Mike Bloomberg and Company"!!!(sounds like a great hook for a morning show...don't it???).
Edited by TropoDuckie on 04/19/06 03:03 AM.

Great, a bogus legal. Wonder if they will go for new calls?

I picked them up strong in Lake Ronkonkoma this morning. This was in the works for some time. Because of their Bloomberg committment, WHBE was limited in their ability to generate revenue. Now, with their stronger westward signal on 92.9, they'll be able to attract new business from the west while still servicing east end advertisers on 96.9. It should be a win-win for EHM and their parent company Cherry Creek (formerly AAA).

Definitely. They should do something about their odd sound processing however.

Agreed. They've always had a very uneven sound from song to song.

It's very doubtful that Cherry Creek will keep identical programming on two seperate signals with basically the same coverage pattern. And with the success of WEHM in the Riverhead book, it's improbable that they will move it over (back, essentially) to 96.9. Now that 96.9 is a bonefide east end signal, look for CC to maximize their advertising potential.

BTW, EHM on 96.9 sounds pretty good - even in monaural, unlike that audio horror show AAA slapped together for 92.9, 102.5 and 101.7. I have airchecks recorded at 1 7/8 on Friendly Frost reel-to-reel tape that sound better. Hopefully, Cherry Creek will infuse a little investment there as well.

That's exactly what they will do. EHM will broadcast on both frequencies. Now that 92.9 has more of a westward reach, they'll attempt to sell ad time on 92.9 to businesses west of Riverhead, while 96.9 will continue to service the east end.

One can only hope!

>>That's exactly what they have already done!!! Heard a spot on 92.9 WEHM-West for The Atlantic Auto Mall...located in West Islip!!! Last time I looked...I do believe that, that would be west of the head of the "River"! Just don't know what ran on 96.9 EHM-East at the same time.

Can someone aircheck the WEHM/WHEN legal id for me and mp3 it to my inbox?Paul
