Breaking News: WNYH 740 AM has been sold to a Connecticut man for $740. The station will flip to an oldies format immediately. In September The New FUN 74 AM will begin broadcasting local high school football. A spokesman for the man who bought the station said "CTC".

WNYH goes Classical?

Sun 4/2 between 3:00pm to 4:00pm

I was testing out my new "Recepter Radio" when 740 came in loud and clear with Classical Music (it's usually kind of iffy here in Floral Park). The breaks between movements often had the voice "From Huntington NY, this is WNYH 740", and also had an "official" "WNYH Huntington, NY" in there too. Nothing else like comms or titles of the works...on auto-pilot I guess.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I could swear I heard an "Outlook Express" inbox "chime" or similar sound during a quiet passage of the music. It can't be that they are playing a CD through a computer? Or did they record the CD on a computer and one of the computer sounds were recorded too??

The music at 3:40, sounded suspiciously similar to the music at 3:10.

Re: WNYH - Progress

(Sunday 4/2) Re: WNYH - Don't get excited about Classical Music...

WNYH has been playing Classical Music Style Hymns every Sunday for quite some time now. Tomorrow they will return to their usual ecclectic Oldies format with a few Vitamin shows thrown in there during the morning hours.

PROGRESS REPORT (Tuesday 4/4)

Signs of Life at WNYH. Today for the first time I hear them promoting not only 30 and 60 minute programming blocks, but they have added 30 and 60 second spots to the available inventory. They also seem to have gotten themselves a 516 area code Telephone # that clients can call to buy airtime. I also notice that the Automation seems to be running better than it had been a few weeks ago, with less noticable technical errors. I think there is also a growing variety of songs in the playlist.

If the people running WNYH can keep moving forward towards a better on air product, and can figure out a more effective way to sell airtime, they may actually be able to put AM 740 back on the map.
Edited by Russty on 04/04/06 04:38 AM.

I thought this station would have the same format as Morey's new station on 107.9, as mentioned in the thread below. :)

Re: WNYH - Progress

Today they are running announcements asking people not to call the number previously mentioned, that is for advertisers only. They want to keep the line open so that advertisers can get thru so they can keep "playing the music you want to hear".

I don't know what the fuss is, I can download these Microsoft sounds at home.
