Breaking News!!!!!!!!!!

they werent local before. Val was pumped in from LA, and not live. Elvis will probably be live at least.

You're right. Elvis's show is not tape delayed like Valentine's was, it airs live on his affiliates. They're running a few best of breaks an hour right now, touting it as a "sneak peek" with imaging promoting the start date at the end of each bit.

I'm not the 28 year old female that Kiss targets, but to me the show sounds great so far. A huge step-up from Valentine.

Nice job with the www.elvisincleveland.com site as well.

Wonder whats going to happen when the station is spun off? Im really hoping that Rubber City is smart in all of this, keeps it and goes after both cities. It could have huge potential for RC.

Personally, I don't see CC letting go of CHR in Cleveland. I'm with the "Kiss moving to 106.5" argument. From what I understand Mix is in really bad shape, not hitting their 25-54 demos well at all (neither AM nor PM drive made Top 5 25-54) and apparantly getting outbilled by KISS. (I've heard this from a few people in the biz actually)

The only mystery (if I'm right) is why not just sell the 106.5 frequency if MIX is getting jettisoned in favor of KISS?

This show will be a big improvement over Val.

With WAKS making 2 big programming adjustments in the next few weeks, I highly doubt that Clear Channel will let CHR go. I'm also on the "moving to 106.5" bandwagon.

As far as why let 96.5 go and not 106.5, 106.5 has a bit of a superior signal in the metro area than 96.5 due to its central location in "the farm", where as 96.5 is farther south and therefore not as strong in growing suburban areas like Painsville/Lake/Geauga Counties. That's just my guess.
106.5 makes into downtown clearer on my car stereo, 96.5 has some noticeable static down there.

Kiss does worse than Mix in the key 25-54 demo.

The only time Kiss outbills Mix has been a total of 5 quarters from what I understand. Mix while it may sound terrible, actually does a little better than KISS. They may move everything around on the dial and prove me wrong, but the only thing that seems odd to me is that you think on the 25th, they would just do it instead of cause mass confusion down the road.

Remember Bain only cares about $$$$$ not the ####. They want to recoup their investment quickly. Plus KISS has already been on another position.

Just watch things, I have an odd feeling that something bigger is in store for Mix once Kiss is gone. Im thinking a much more gold based Hot AC that will help pull down WDOK. Then CBS (or whoever the new owner is) will then make WQAL a little more CHR leaning.

This of course is only my opinion, but KISS has never really done better than 7th place. Mix hasn't done all that well either, but if they can use Mix as combat gear to help pull WDOK down a share or two, they will dominate with WTAM-WGAR-WMJI again. The goal for them is to own the top 3 with P25-54 and W25-54. WDOK is consistantly in the way to acheive this.

MIX 106.5 - THE BETTER MIX OF YESTERDAY AND TODAY could be on the way...maybe with a different name, LITE 106.5?

CHR is an 18-34 format. Specifically W18-34 and P12-24. Correct?

Realistically CHR is not a 25-54 format.

"Lite 106-5"....ala "Lite Rock 106.5" of yesteryear? Isn't WDOK filling that void quite well?

MIX should go back to the sound it debuted with in 1998. Three imaging VO's, TR Rezney imaging (HOT Stuff!) and a great 80s/90s mix. "Friday Night 80s" originated with WQAL but MIX took the 80s to another level.

You guys are too funny. Elvis is a great show and the 12 + people he has working for him at Z-100 will do a great job as well, but lets not sell me short. We leave #1 AM drive 18-34W and #3 18-34P, not bad for a show that can't take live phone calls and was tracked from a prod studio in LA. Eight + years we were on Kiss, we were there even before the frequency flip. Things have been tougher since I started doing mornings in LA, but we pulled off some special stuff in Cleveland without any Corp. backing or staffing.

This was way more than a glass half full situation.

Valentine
LA

Val -

You have a great show, always been a fan. Im sure Elvis will do okay as well, just not the same in Cleveland without Val.

But as I said, things are going to be interesting with them spinning off WAKS afterall.

"The only mystery (if I'm right) is why not just sell the 106.5 frequency if MIX is getting jettisoned in favor of KISS? "

106.5 is a far better signal and overall license than 96.5.

Not only is the coverage much better on 106.5, but 106.5 is a Cleveland license and 96.5 is an Akron license. Although 96.5 broadcasts from a Cleveland metro tower (the same tower as WZAK, Cleveland and WTAM)....and is, for all practical purposes, a Cleveland station, the rules may change someday, and revert back to the old rule, where you have to broadcast in--or near--the city of license. That might throw a wrench into running KISS from Independence, which may (someday) be considered too far from Akron.

An "Akron" license may complicate things someday, and 106.5 from the tall TV tower is a much better signal anyway.

You're right HHH, 106-5 IS the better signal. That's what we're all saying. That's what CC is keeping it, and most likely (not for certain) moving the CHR format to 106-5. The better signal may help KISS. Only time will tell.

But in the end, it will all come down to billing......which format will bring in the largest amounts of money? I agree that MIX 106.5 has taken a too few many spins around the blender and someone needs to hit stop and re-jigger the station, but would moving KISS there bring in the large amonts of money that they need? After all, it seems to cater to a younger demo than the advertisers like. Just my three cents.....used to be two, but ya know, inflation hits everything.

Kiss is way too young for the money demo, and in Cleveland...CC needs to make money.

I could see them leaning MIX a few years younger, but still remaining a Hot AC. This would potentially force WQAL to pick up the 18-34 slack, but still remaining relevant to 18-49.

Mix is a bigger signal, better money maker and shaker, and could potentially do better.

Here is a potential look at what WMVX could do:

6-10 : Kasper in the Morning
10-3 : Daune Robinson
3-7: Brian and Joe on the drive home
7-12: Jay Hudson

Keep it a fresher Hot AC playing Daughtry, Kelly, Katy, Nelly Furtado...more 1993-Current

Or you could even keep Elvis Duran in the morning...Brian and Joe on the drive home

Either way:

Nah. Look at Z100 in New York, KISS in LA, KISS in Boston, etc. Clear Channel CHRs that are all right at the top of the 12+ ratings, with huge 18-34s. Big billing.

I don't think that CC wants to split Hot/AC with WQAL in Cleveland.

I think that the signal boost from 106.5 will help KISS, and if CC kicks up the promo machine, it could increase the ratings substantially.

I think that's a winning combo, Elvis and B&J.

I personally like Valentine's show. But Elvis will be huge on the northcoast!
