Breaking News!!

Apparently, the name for the new format will be Crush... perfect fit for CHR/Rock if you ask me (I assume they're referring to "crush" as in crushing something :p)

Thing is, will putting Lady Gaga, Neon Trees and My Chemical Romance on the same station cause it to fail? Only time will tell...

Does the stunting/new format begin sometime today or tonight at midnight?

No Christmas miracles as far as 105.7's format switch. I don't know why I bother getting my hopes up each time. Here a powerful torch of a station produces a smooth professional Christmas time format gathering listeners of ALL ages(except the intended audience of the new format, twenty somethings who never listen to radio anyway) and again will switch apparently to another same old same old waste of frequency. If you listen carefully over the next 24-48 you can hear the clicks of 105.7 presets going off all over the region from people who happen to be older but spend too.
A oldies station covering every song (including the obscure ones to avoid sounding like the redundant WTRY) of the 50's,60's and 70's would keep a large portion of the "Santa" audience tuned in. It would have made sense but we must listen to the consultants.
If this is all 105.7 was destined to wind up as why do a Christmas format at all? Just go right to another clone for an age group who aren't listening.

Like I've said, it'll probably lure in former Channel 103-1 listeners and those who don't like the classic rock on Q103.9 (which might flip to mainstream or classic rock anyway, to reduce overlap with Crush), and also kill 100.3 The Point (a modern AC/AAA station that does well in Saratoga/Glens Falls because Q's signal doesn't reach that far but 105.7's does). Needless to say, if CHR/Rock fails, they could go with either a straight Modern Rock or CHR/Mainstream format on 105.7 if needed. :)

As for other changes, if Pamal wanted to do a country station, why not move Cat Country down to 100.9 or even simulcast Froggy 107 again (on 100.9 instead of 104.9)? As for 104.9, it should both increase power and simulcast Magic 590 as WROW-FM :) 102.3 Kiss FM needs a new format too... probably either Rhythmic (keeping the Kiss FM name), AC (102.3 Lite FM? :D) or a simulcast of Fox Sports 980 (I think the WOFX-FM calls are taken though).

104.9 cannot increase power, too close to 104.5 WTMM and WAMC's 105.1 in Great Barrington, Ma. It would be best if 104.9 was again simulcasted with Froggy 107.1. 100.9 should go back to "Magic". 590 should go to the satellite delivered classic country like Pamal's WENU 1410 has in S. Glens Falls. Its inexpensive programming. Classic country is the most viable music format for AM now that Nostagic formats have been discontinued. As we all know, AM for the most part has been relegated to news/talk or sports.

I began rolling the aircheck at 15 minutes to midnight, and so far no changes yet... still Christmas music and Santa 105.7 liners. I'm thinking the changes will come later on today or Monday (either tomorrow or January 3) :)

Not yet... so now I'm expecting sometime tomorrow morning :)

I remember two other stations in Albany have used this stunt in the past: 104.9 Love FM used it to dump their failed urban AC format for a Froggy simulcast, and 100.3 The Point used it to flip to its current format (a modern AC/AAA hybrid).

What I love is that http://santa1057.com/ says it's negative three days and twenty-eight seconds to Christmas (which wouldn't be correct math even if one did try to count from either midnight at the start or end of the 25th). It also says that they're playing Christmas music "everyday through Christmas."

Someone is obviously paying lots of attention at Townsquare.

Yep, I noticed that too on santa1057.com... what would the new CHR/Rock format be classified as by Arbitron? I would guess WBZZ's new format would be classed as Modern AC rather than CHR/Mainstream by Arbitron and others (but that can probably be solved by adding some rhythmic artists like Lady Gaga and Kesha... much like how 102.3 stays on the CHR panel rather than Rhythmic by throwing in the occasional pop-rock artist such as Neon Trees). All I know is, Christmas music will end sometime on January 3 (probably midnight, 6:00 AM or 10:57 AM) and the new format will roll in :)

In the meantime, what do you think should happen to WQBK? Should it go to mainstream or classic rock to try to reduce overlap with the modern rock/CHR format on 105.7? We also don't need the repeater on WQBJ (103.5 Cobleskill), and it'd be a better idea for it to be sold (probably to either Chartock, Roser, or a religious broadcaster) :)

DaniKayser84: I'm fairly certain that you have never worked a day in radio because you babble like someone who hasn't a clue. You seem so confident in what the new format for 105.7 will be... based on what? Nothing. You suggest selling 103.5 because "we" don't need it? Who's we? You aren't Townsquare because they do get the Arbitron over there and they do know (like anyone else who is actually a radio professional in this market) that 80% of Q103's ratings come from the 103.5 stick NOT 103.9. You've made several predictions about a launch time and when your next prediction fails will you keep blindly making them? You are clueless and your uneducated speculation is irritating. Playing construction noises is stunting... so is playing Christmas music in JULY... not playing it through New Years.

I'll give you credit for CHR but a rock leaning one? When you have the only surviving active rock station in house? Why would they take money out of their own pockets when they could take it out of ABC's or CC's?

It was understood to me that it won't be until Jan 3rd.

January 5 to be specific if you celebrate what is called "Little Christmas", which is the day before Epiphany, the 6th. If you count from December 25th through January 5th you have twelve days of Christmas.
