BREAKING NEWS

According to WPIX's Facebook...

We are pleased to announce we have reached an agreement with Cablevision and we're now back on the air!

And for customers it's the return of WPIX (but no more WCCT.  I went to channel 20 and there is a graphic saying "CW will now be exclusively on channel 11") and Antenna TV, channel 114.

Looks like another CT TV station has bit the dust on Cablevision.  A couple of years ago it was WTIC Fox CT, now it's WCCT.

I assume you mean just in Fairfield County. Cablevision in New Haven county still has to carry WCCT.

Here in Central New Jersey WPIX is forcing Comcast to black out the two hour prime time CW programing block on CBS owned WPSG CW Philly (57) the difference being with Cablevision in Fairfield county WCCT and WPIX are both owed by Tribune and would be a bit surprised if WPIX would get it own Tribune sister station blacked out. Are they still running WCCT non CW programing or is the station just gone?

Speaking of Prime Time blackout, is it similar to canadian cable of simsub. that a canadian stations overides a US station if they show the same program. Will you see WPIX on WPSG during prime time or blank screen?

Some US cable systems in the past would insert the local signal over the distant one during network programming -- in some cases, they would use equipment that would switch signals during local breaks during network shows, as a way to follow the contract of the local station, yet preserve all the local commercials and breaking news of the out-of-town station.

These days, I imagine cable systems would simply either put up a notice saying that the channel is blacked out by FCC regulations, or replace it with infomercials.

I've seen this on cable in Wisconsin. They are in the Miwaukee area and carry both Milwaukee and some Chicago stations. During prime time and some syndicated programs, there is a slide up over some of the Chicago stations saying that the station is blacked out and directing you to another channel.

It was a screen with a Message from Comcast that WPIX requested that CW programing not be duplicated in your area and you can watch CW Programing on WPIX 11 or 811 depending of if you were watching SD or HD. Something must have been resolved between Tribune/WPIX CBS/WPSG and Comcast because the Black Out stopped after November 26th and CW Programing has been airing again on WPSG ever since November 27th.
