Bret Lewis, Former KFWB Sports Anchor

I grew up in Austin in the 1960s and early 1970s, and I recall listening to Bret Lewis on his early radio gigs. He first appeared on the midnight to 6am shift on the old Top 40 KNOW in the late 60s before moving to 7pm to midnight. He then went around the corner to similarly formatted KTAP holding down morning drive. On both stations he was energetic, witty, funny, with lots of live and preproduced comedy bits…a joy to listen to.

I think prior to those two stations he did some work for KUT-FM, the University of Texas’ station, which was a much more modest operation at the time than it is today.

In the mid 70s I was living in the DFW area and Bret was doing TV news on KTVT, then an independent. I think he may have also been doing some voice work for KXTX for a short while. I also recall later in the 70s he was doing sports talk on the original KAAM, IIRC.

I lost track of him after that until I discovered he has working in LA. Was good to see that he had “moved up the ladder” to a top market.

Very fond memories of listening to Bret at the beginning of his career. Sorry to hear of his passing.
