BREVARD COUNTY RADIO

I'M very interested in Cocoa-Titusville-Melbourne Radio Market. Would someone please do an update on the board of who-what-when-where- and how. This was brought about because I heard of a major facility change for WWBC that is supposed to be going to 50,000 watts? How.. Someone please give me an update of the area...Thanks APE!

Like, what are you wanting to know...formats? Who's big, who isn't?

Pretty much, besides 95.1 (and 95.9 if you count that), all the Brevard County stations are solid.

Not sure what criteria you are using to describe a station as "solid", but your estimation of the market leaves a lot to be desired.

Having lived there for four years --- you can look up Radio-Locator.com the same as me for recent changes. Brevard radio pretty much fills in gaps from the rapidly weakening Orlando stations the further South you go. It exists to serve listeners who don't have fringe equipment, provides some localism, some are rimshots into Orlando, etc. It is OK - I wouldn't call it great - I had good equipment so it just gave me more choices on the dial. Of course I was one of the wierdos who DX'ed Miami / Ft. Lauderdale / West Palm Beach. MUCH better stations for the most part. Some of the West Palm Beach stations make it in on a good car radio like Pioneer Supertuner.

"Solid" meaning they're taking in cash and do well in the books. I did not mean being top-notch stations in terms of quality of the programming.

Basically, the Brevard County dial sounds like a well-produced group of small-town radio stations. Nothing notable. Plus, given the fact that most people can get most of the Orlando and Treasure Coast stations well, it's basically just a clump of stations to have on in the office or for Jimbob to listen to in his '87 Ford Ranger with no antenna.

Appreciate the response..I started in radio in Brevard way back in 1964 and am thinking on making a return engagement! Of course It will never be like the 60's WKKO 860..WRKT--WTAI.Eau Gallie WEZY..WCKS- and WWBC which I read was increasing power...God Mercer Livermore and John Fox will roll over if they knew they could have done that years ago! Cheers! BIG APE!
