Brian Dodge Is Selling WCKL,YEA!

Scott Fybush reports that Brian Dodge is done mucking around with 560 WCKL. YEA! He is selling it to Love Church in Greenport. I know it is another religious station but it has to be an improvement to the current amateur mess. I would think they would hire a professional to run it, even if they are not very good , it will be less a waste of electricity (or worse) than being run by a Bozo who does not know what he is doing. Hopefully they will fix the transmitter, which I understand is worse than ever causing harmonic interference on different bands. Dodge probably never fixed the tower issue from last summer. I am surprised the FCC has not shut him down.

Not sure what is left to buy. They were kicked out of the Clear Channel Building, transmitter and all. So the transmitter needs to be put back together (if you can do that) and then you have to find a tower or get CC to rent to you again.

I think CKL is done this time.

Last I heard the transmission lines were cut again - so even the CC towers won't work without repair.

Anybody have any information on this "Love Church" in Greenport? I have radio experience and interested in helping to resurrect this station. I can't find any information or phone number anywhere.

I believe that are still on the air and causing interference on the amateur operators ham band -see oldies on HF thread

I take it that clear channel owns the towers and the real estate. They probably would want to get rid of the two tall towers that don't have the 98.5 antennas on them. It is probably costing a fortune just to light them. The love church might have to develop another site and that would be costly.

Observations...

WJIV offered BUFNY more money and in fact won the station in an auction and BUFNY just walked away.

Also, i don't think you can sell a station that isn't in compliance.

Thoughts?

If Mr. Dodge is as (for lack of a better word) shady as he seems to be, how could whoever sold the station to him not have done some background investigating to learn a little bit about this character? How could the station be sold to him when another station possibly won it in an auction? It would seem to me that a fire would need to be lit under the lawyers tail and the fcc to rectify this situation. Somebody seems to have dropped the ball.

The Commission no longer gets involved in contractual situations.

Suprised no one mentioned Dodge's presence on 94.1MHz last month. Heard two transmissions while traversing the area. The usual mix plus heard a spot for a plumber in Cario. Very low audio.. Patently illegal.

Last few days, this same (xlator?) was seguing Rolling Stones, then Springsteen tracks. Could have been someone stunting out of area since I was rather high up?

Only heard Dodge's recently acquired AM Xmtr briefly. Reportedly attempting to load into a longwire and throwing harmonics on HF and yes - into the Amateur Service.

Operators like Dodge just poision the waters. What a mess.

I'm surprised it took this long. Drove from Oklahoma to Catskill to look at possibly working for the station back in July (This is before I found the board, I learned a valuable lesson). Spent two days there, knew it was completely shady and horrible and left. How he's been able to be around this long and hold a station that long, I'll never know.

They are actually also on 103.7 FM as of now, transmitting from the WZCR/WHUC tower on Healy Blvd. in Greenport.
When I call their phone number (for 560am) no one answers.
Very bad audio and only on one channel, right speaker.
Annoying, since it bleeds over to 103.9, WQBK FM
E-mailed Town Square Media's GM but never heard anything. Don't think they really care.
Very bad adjacent channel interference, but I have no idea how get them to fix the problem and get the hell off 103.7 FM

Are they on an authorized frequency in that area? Didn't realize 103.7 was available. Besides the Hudson tower has no height so the signal can't be too strong. Also owned by Clear Channel...if he owes them $$$ how do they permit him to do this. So many questions!

No, they are not authorized on 103.7 FM
And the clear channel situation here is pretty complicated.
They have two tower sites, one along route 9G near the hudson river where 98.5 (WCTW) and 560 (WCKL) have transmitters and antennas/towers
Then in Greenport, near Shoprite on Maple Ln or Healy Blvd. where the tower is visible they have 93.5 (WZCR) and WHUC (1230) on one tower.
Not getting into these upcoming sales and changes......but I think this was all set up this way one day long ago when one company owned all these stations........anyway that part I don't care about.
ALL I KNOW NEAR THE TOWER ON HEALY BLVD IS WHERE THE 103.7 FM IS ORIGINATING FROM. NO WHERE ELSE.
I don't know how, nor do I care, am a frequent listener of 103.9 WQBK and it is making that station unlistenable.
They should fix the problem, since they are obviously violating some FCC regulations by having their signal bleed all over the place onto frequencies that are not licensed to them.

103.7 is licensed to Catskill, retransmitting WNGN (Northeast Gospel Network). According to the FCC data base and Radio Locator the tower is supposed to be southwest of Catskill. Their primary service does not extend much north of Catskill, with even the optimistic Radio Info map showing only fringe coverage of Hudson. Did Dodge perhaps work a deal with NGN? In any event the antenna should not be in Hudson. Although illegal moving of translators is nothing new to Brian Dodge, I am sure landlord Clear Channel would not permit it without authorization. If they are interfering with WQBK a complaint should be filed with the FCC, Hudson is on the edge of their protected couture.
As far as the two tower locations for CC Hudson/ Catskill group WCKL/WCTW and WHUC/ WZCR used to be owned by separate companies.
Clear Channel has applied to purchase and move 105.9 from Capstar and replace WPYX with WHUC AM, with the antenna on the WCKL/ WCTW tower.

Do a little researc and you might discover that the Love Church is in fact ain in-law to the outlaw. He will never use those towers on 9G or the WZCR tower in Greenport. I bleieve he has a piece of wire running out of a building where he has run to hide on County Route 31. Wonder who got the car they were allegely raffling off, evern thoiugh it appears the vehicle was being used exclusively to transport Mr Dodge around. This guy shoul dbe in jail.

I'm not an engineer just an electrical contractor and a bit of a tech geek, but I know just by driving around with my work van and listening to 103.9 FM (WQBK) that the interference radiation from 103.7 is STRONGEST around that tower (WZCR/WHUC) near shoprite also the same location where that station 560 WCKL has an office space they are renting.

So technically I do not know EXACTLY how they are ending up on 103.7FM nor EXACTLY where the signal is pouring out of EXACTLY. But during my work day driving all over the area 103.7 has the strongest signal around the WZCR/WHUC tower.

If anyone has anything to say against that, just drive over there and listen to either 103.7 and 103.9 FM

I certainly do not doubt what you are saying. I am only up that way in the summer months, so I can’t hear what is happening. I am aware of the types of illegal operations Brian Dodge runs, including unauthorized moving of translators. Since 103.7 is somehow broadcasting from an unauthorized location, well northeast of where is licensed and interfering with 103.9 WQBK within their protected couture you can complain to the FCC yourself at this address.http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
I would also try again contacting WQBK, and inform them what is happening. I would think they would want to take action. With radio stations so understaffed these days maybe you previous e-mail was overlooked.
