BRIAN ELDER GONE FROM KIX

Word is he is off for Equal Time compliance as he runs for mayor of Lakeland. Question is will he come back after the election, win or lose? Listened this morning. No mention of his name. Jay and Capt never even mentioned their own names. No Y&E imaging.

While I have no inside information on this situation, it appears to this disinterested observer to be real.

First, the timing. Perhaps the timing is not unlike that Clear Channel used to use -- dumping people just before Thanksgiving. This allows the company to give 30 days severance that expires in time to have the employee off the books by the beginning of the year. Perhaps Citadel is doing the same thing?

Secondly, in the current climate, it would be in very poor taste to make jokes out of people losing jobs. I am among the most crass, cynical and uncouth people on Earth, and even I wouldn't do it.

Plus, Elder appears to have been scrubbed form the website in true Orwellian fashion, fitting of "MiniTrue." If this is a stunt, Winston Smith was likely involved.

I hope I'm wrong.

I can't see why this is an Equal Access move.

Equal Access kicks in 45 days before a primary and 60 days before a general election.

Kix 106 would not have to deal with access for other candidates until mid-July, which is nearly eight months from now.

I don't know what the morning numbers are, but overall, Kix is now enjoying their best ratings in many years.

This is where Dr. Henry Lee says: "Something not right here."

Given the information from the poster above about equal access, this appears to be a traditional, big corporate radio tactic to trim the payroll before the end of the year and use his mayoral run as the lame excuse for dismissal.

Good luck to Brian in the near term and best of luck to the remainder of the team.

Corporate radio shooting itself in the foot again.

If you recall, they've got a hundred million dollar investment there, after paying Barnstable.

No PD for KIX 106. That should tell you volumes about Citadel's commitment to the cluster.

I have seen Brian in action as head of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, and I am certain he would do fine as Mayor out that way. Good luck!

There's a facebook group that just started to bring Brian Elder back.
